Financial Secretary post up for grabs, Forbes’ return undecided
Government is in search of a new Financial Secretary.
The incumbent Financial Secretary Glenroy Forbes – who was appointed to the post under the previous NDP administration – said his contract will officially come to an end in the next few weeks.
“I signed a two-year contract with the government of the Virgin Islands which is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2019. As with any post in the civil service, the authorities will need to advertise for a timely replacement,” Forbes said in an interview with BVI News.
He further told our news centre that his contract could be renewed.
“Although there has been some discussion about a possible extension, I have not yet confirmed my acceptance of any such extension. In short, the current administration and I will decide whether or not we both want an extension of the contract and for what length,” Forbes said.
The listing for the position was posted on the government’s website on February 25. The vacancy closes Tuesday, April 30.

Why do we keep hiring Deputies that requires training, so much so that they cannot immediately become a successor?
EVERY JOB HAS A TRAINING PERIOD!!!! SMH. THIS IS RUNNING THE ENTIRE TERRITORY MONEY- YOU REALLY WANT SOMEBODY WITHOUT TRAINING?????
Or conversely, we can ask, why are the contract periods so short that 1) we don’t have time to train deputies and 2) we don’t really have time for the secretary to implement any/many reforms, etc.
Why don’t we even know what their responsibilities are? Mr Premier please tell us.
