Fire destroys car – at least 8 such incidents this year

Another motorcar has burst into flames; this time in the hills overlooking Sea Cows Bay, Tortola.

Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze but not before the car was gutted.

This is at least the eighth vehicle to go up in flames while being driven on the territory’s roads since the start of the year.

The incident yesterday happened in the early afternoon, and contributed to a major pile-up of traffic on the hilly Bound Tree Road near Ebenezar Thomas Primary School in Sea Cows Bay.

At the time, Bound Tree Road was the only one accessible to most motorists who were travelling between Road Town and communities beyond the Ebenezar Thomas Primary area. The main road was blocked to facilitate sewerage-related works at Fort Burt close to Road Town.
