Five teens arrested after beating their peer

The Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town

BVI News understands that a 13-year-old boy was recently taken to hospital after he was attacked and beaten by a group of his peers.

It is understood that the victim was participating in a practice exercise with other teens when he was pounced upon by five other young men who hit him all over his body. Highly placed sources also say a metal object was used to beat the victim during the assault.

It’s understood that the victim sustained injuries and swellings and was taken to hospital where he received treatment. The matter was reported to the police and it was later revealed that the teens were feuding over a scooter that allegedly belonged to one of the boys involved in the incident.

The five boys who were accused of committing the assault were later arrested and questioned in the presence of their guardians. They were later charged with assault. It is unclear whether other charges were laid against the youngsters, but BVI News was told that none of them were jailed.

In the meantime, it is also unclear whether the young men will be taken to court or whether the matter will be resolved outside of the court system.

Our justice system is a joke. When you had corporal punishment children were kept in order. When you had capital punishment adults were kept in order. Thanks to the UK and its humanitarian efforts by taking away these two punishments the BVI is what it is today.

Shut you SK**T. Islands kids are very well behaved and trained compare to the dogs yall bringing up here! Bvi islanders are very much racist to other islands, always trying to blame other countries nationals for their own nasty and unacceptable behavior. Without other nationalities the country is nothing.

I’m pretty sure that you are *not* a BVIslander, but someone who has been placed on this site to incite division and hatred. Divide and conquer. BVIslanders do not perpetuate this nonsense, as most of us have children with or are inter-married with people from through the Caribbean and elsewhere. We all are one island people family. Find another way to generate discussion on this site other than by inciting this kind of hatred. Shame on you and on this news site for continuously feeding this type of garbage and propaganda!

You are correct. The sad thing is some persons from the other islands are so ready to be offended and think the worse of Bvislanders that they often take the bait. There are some that thrive on confusion and division and then sit back and laugh at the chaos caused.

        @ Stop Inciting Hate!

You are absolutely correct. And it’s not just this topic, nor is it just this news site and island. The practice of allowing (indeed encouraging) comments under a pseudonym together with a lack of editorial moderation, contributes to this problem.

Interestingly, the fact that I am publishing this comment under my real name – as I always do – means that it may be barred from publication.

    • Not Necessary says:

Please it is time we stop attacking persons like that. It only shows hatred. We are all God’s creation. We are speaking so much hatred into this little Territory. Let us create a positive atmosphere and live, setting positive examples for our children. We must remember children have minds of their owns but if we work with them and control the negative influences in their lives and set positive examples for them to follow, our children will become productive and law-abiding citizens.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you – is the Golden Rule to live by. If this is implemented by all, fairness, peace and understanding will reign.

  3. Take Action says:

At some point we have to say enough is enough. If these children and their parents are BVIslanders then we deal with them here. If they are not, it is time we begin to stop renewing work permits and bid some people goodbye. If you cannot control your children then you have to go. We have enough problems of our own…why are we importing even more? It sounds harsh but we have to take some serious steps if we are to see any improvement in the quality of life in the BVI.

  6. Really??!! says:

A lot of these children following their peers! Even when they don’t want to be involved, they do it so that can look cool to their friends! Look at the situation with the students fighting the security guard in school. What is the punishment for those actions? In my opinion, they should be expelled for such disrespect! Or a suspension with at the least 2 weeks of HARD community service. A lot of these children like to instigate trouble so that they can look “cool” to their friends.

All I know, I’m not sitting idly by and letting any and everybody bully my child. I would rather my daughter not fight. I encourage her to be friendly and kind to everyone, not start any trouble but I also tell her that we are nobody’s punching bag! If they want to be an @ss, depending on the severity of what is being done to her, they get ONE opportunity for us to handle things civilly. After that, once they hit first, we on the defense. You kick @ss and then we’ll deal with the rest later. We not taking no licks from no bullies, stand up for yourself from the first sign of trouble because there is no satisfaction otherwise!

  7. Robert Fathman says:

To the reply that laments the lack of corporal punishment — say what?!? Beat the kids so they won’t at all model that behavior and beat others? Let’s get rid of all corporal punishment, model the resolving of conflicts in on-physical ways.

Honestly. Some of you BVIlanders are sickening. If the so called ‘down island’ people go home we will suffer. And yes my parents or grandparents are from the BVI born and raised. Y’all need to stop. Children are picking up bad behavior and fix this behavior. Y’all sound like people who have never step foot off these islands.

  12. Do you still question why? says:

The BVI is already a multinational society so where do we go from here:
    1. Stop the blame game and be parents
    2. It does not matter your nationality teach your children to respect God, the law and each other period.
    3. Set boundaries and rules for your children at home and follow through.
    4. Do not be afraid to discipline them when they are young . Dont wait until the reach age 9 to lay down the rul d
    5. Donot slander and make racist comments in front of your children about their teachers, people of other culture
    6. Teach you children manners- how to say sorry, good morning, thank you , excuse me
    7. Keep them out of adults conversation
    8. Buying them gadgets or rewarding them for not completing a task is breeding immaturity
    9. Do not allow them to walk in and out of your home to attend functions
    10. Go to church with them. Do not stay home and sleep
    11. Do not have your children sleeping all day and then knock on their door to come out and eat
When we do this, we are breeding a generation that in a few years we will not recognize

  13. BuzzBvi says:

That generation already been and gone. Now we have what we have.

  14. Bull says:

5 against one and an offensive weapon was used. This is more than assault. This is aggravated battery occasioning grevious bodily harm. Attempted murder even. But go for assault buddy. Give the DPP some chance of success. Hope the 5 have already been expelled and placed on curfew with requirements to report to the police station while they wait for their trial date. I also hope the parents of the 1 sue the parents of the 5 for personal injury. That is 5 people to collect a healthy check off of. If they are not made an example of, that country will be in more trouble than it can handle.

  15. STOP says:

You BVI men need to stop plugging up the down Island and Santo women when they come here and start dropping their ANCHOR BABIES.

all in all, the gov you elect is what you get. clownshow. making a raft of cash for we people to float on. never get anywhere on a vessel like that. slowly sinking . going nowhere . 1/4 of pop. votes? that sht don’t work. see american revolution

  17. Islander says:

I can’t believe the narcissistic behavior of Virgin islanders like Tortola is a continent or maybe a country…it’s an island..saying down islanders are this and that has the bvi in the ditch it is now…they need to revisit their culture and heritage and realize without the other countries bvi is the shithole it is and will always be.
