A flash flood advisory has been issued for the British Virgin Islands.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service issued the advisory at 4pm on Thursday, August 30.

The advisory will remain in effect till midnight. But, the meteorological service said the advisory could be upgraded to ‘flash flood warning’ at short notice.

“A flood advisory means that streams, creeks and drains may be elevated or even overflowing into streets, low lying and flood prone areas. However, property damage will be minimal,” the meteorological service said in a media release through the Department of Disaster Management.

“Inconveniences can be expected but the flooding is not expected to be immediately life-threatening,” it added.

The flash flood advisory was issued because of a tropical wave lingering in the area.

Residents are advised that the territory could experience “periods of heavy showers” later tonight, August 30.

They are also being advised to continue to monitor the situation.

What if we get another one? I hope people change for better. Too much negativity in the energy realms.

It has been flooding in Tortola since I was growing up through the 90s. It isn’t like it started snowing or something. It is just ignorance and getting their personal priorities ahead of public ones that has the country in a mess. I barely recall anyone in govt who really is that affected by these repeated floods the same way someone who actually lives along a natural ghut like Huntums or Purcell are affected. Even if they are they will just replace their stuff and ride their SUV on out of there.

These things keep happening but the emotional trauma seems insufficient to change their underlying behaviour.

Just return to their perceotion that it is right to be selfish because the world is selfish.

When will this country hire engineers with the requisite experience neccessary to fix this problem?
