UPDATE: Hurricane warning in effect for BVI

Discussing Dorian

A hurricane warning has now been issued for the British Virgin Islands as Tropical Storm Dorian, which is expected to become a hurricane later today, passes south of the territory.

The warning effectively means that hurricane conditions are expected. These conditions are accompanied by sustained winds of 74 mph or higher.

According to the Department of Disaster Management’s (DDM) latest weather update, Dorian’s maximum sustained winds have already increased to near 70 mph with higher gusts.

“Dorian is forecast to become a hurricane later today and continue strengthening during the next few days over the Atlantic waters. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles primarily to the east of the centre,” the DDM said.

It further said the BVI can experience hurricane-force winds through to tomorrow morning with rainfall estimates in the range of four to six inches.

“Isolated amounts of 10 inches are possible in some areas,” the DDM said, adding that seas could reach seven to 10 feet.

“Warnings are in effect for hazardous marine conditions and small craft operators are advised to remain in port.”

The British Virgin Islands has been placed under a flash flood watch as Tropical Storm Dorian passes south the territory on a northwest trajectory.

In its latest advisory, the Department of Disaster Management said Dorian is maintaining a “high risk of tropical storm conditions” impacting the territory during the next 12 to 24 hours.

“As a result, a tropical storm warning remains in effect. Residents of these islands are advised to guard against those impacts that could threaten life and property,” the DDM said.

It continued: “Rainfall accumulation could total up to 127mm or 5 inches with possible higher amounts which will lead to flash flooding. As a result, a flash flood watch is now in effect for these islands which could be upgraded at short notice.”

The main island of Tortola is currently facing heavy rains and wind with a few thunderstorms.

Christian nation I was told!!God’s children are not permitted to suffer with the heathens. Read your Bible, the fact that Dorian is going round the Caribbean does not mean she must come here. Let’s examine our ways if truly we are what we claim to be.
