The second annual Foxy’s Hemp Festival is happening this weekend on Jost Van Dyke.

Event organiser and Manager at Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, Thomas Warner, said the event will begin at around 2 pm on Saturday and culminate late into the night.

The event will host a vendor’s market, a fashion show and musical entertainment featuring Jamaican reggae star Jepther ‘Luciano’ McClymont, the Evolution Band, MP3, Jahland, among others.

There will also be addresses by Agriculture and Culture Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley and Senator Positive Nelson from St Croix in the neighbouring, US Virgin Islands.

“One of the goals of the Hemp Fest is to provide a forum for people to talk about legalisation or decriminalization for medicinal use only [of cannabis],” Warner said.

Commenting on Luciano being among the acts who will participate at this year’s Hemp Fest, Warner said: “He is the nicest man in the world — a fantastic performer and I am very, very proud to have him here at Foxy’s.”

Possession and use of cannabis is still illegal

Warner is urging persons to be mindful that it is against the law to possess and utilize cannabis in the territory.

“The Hemp Fest is to encourage the legalization of Cannabis in the Territory [and] it is at the present time against the law to possess and use cannabis, and we encourage respect for the law and the officers enforcing it,” he said.

He also said there will be persons who will demonstrate other uses of cannabis other than “getting high”.

Warner described the festival as a “compostable only”.

How does Dr Wheatley square appearing at an event where there will be hemp products which are themselves illegal. Is he condoning or even contributing to a breach of the law?

This here smells to the clouds with exploitation. It is doubted that Foxy’s and his Black family even benefit as they should from this, our that the lands and business will be theirs . when he is gone home.

Time will expose the truths and the crooks.
