Fraser now defending me the most, Premier says

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has praised Deputy Premier Julian Fraser for standing by him during a failed no-confidence vote in the House of Assembly, despite Fraser having previously threatened to bring multiple such motions against his government.

Speaking during a recent House sitting, Dr Wheatley said Fraser, once a fierce opposition voice, had become “one of the persons who is defending me the most in this vote of no confidence”. He added, “Not just because of anything to do with me but because he’s a patriot for the country.”

The no-confidence motion, brought by Opposition Leader Myron Walwyn, was defeated 7-2. Dr Wheatley said none of the other opposition members, including those in Walwyn’s own alliance, debated in support of it. “For all the noise that was made about this vote of no confidence, it really fell on its face,” he stated.

Fraser, the longest-serving elected member in the House, was appointed Deputy Premier in April after joining the unity government. He served as Leader of the Opposition in previous years and was known for challenging administrations led by both the Virgin Islands Party and the National Democratic Party.

Dr Wheatley said Fraser’s experience and parliamentary knowledge had strengthened the government’s position. “This man has come with his institutional knowledge, and he has strengthened this team so much,” Premier Wheatley explained. He cited Fraser’s use of parliamentary rules such as the “right to reply” during the no-confidence motion as one example.

The Premier also acknowledged At-Large member Ronnie Skelton, describing both Skelton and Fraser as “statesmen” who take positions they believe are best for the country, even if they do not always agree with the government.

The collapse of support for the no-confidence motion further highlighted serious divisions within opposition ranks. Dr Wheatley said leadership required telling the public the truth about national challenges and working together to solve them.

“I have great respect for [Fraser] and I’m learning a lot from him,” Dr Wheatley stated. “He’s a patriot for the country.”

We know that the Premier has a disloyal side to him to hold on to power and will throw anyone under the bus . I wonder who he getting ready to sacrifice now? I thought he understood that a huge part of leadership is being loyal to your Team. We know he courting Hon. Penn and Hon. Skelton, what he dosent realize is that the very reason why they are unable to even now almost a year later unable to STATE who the leader of the reunited NDP is , is because they all want the top position and are not team players.

This HOA is full of self centered hypocrites who care only about themselves and their pursuit of power. Fraser in a press conference right after the 2023 election said that he would never join up VIP unless he was the Premier because they are incompetent. Now, he got a new audi. He could get to fly first class at our expense and now all things are bright and beautiful.

Frasier is so happy to be Deputy. He has been scheming all his political life to be in the drivers seat. Now, he is a front seat passenger rather than the back seat passenger he was for donkey years, and imo he will do or say anything to remain where he is.

Remember this folks: Politics make strange bed fellows.

Sworn political enemies of yesterdays can suddenly become best political allies if it serves their own interest.

Trust none when they come politricking at your door. It’s all to get in power, and then they turn around and quickly forget you, but their long history of political stances no one ever forgets.

So, let Frasier do he. The Premier bets watch his back, but then again, he’s better off keeping his enemies close.
