Frett caught with ‘very sharp knives’ in Road Town

A 58-year-old man, who police caught loitering in the middle of a roadway with two ‘very sharp’ knives that he did not want to be confiscated, has been put on $10,000 bail.

Leonard Frett was granted bail when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court charged with carrying an offensive weapon and using indecent language.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Allegations are that, on November 29 last year, members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were on patrol in Road Town when pedestrians informed them that Frett was in the middle of the road being a danger to himself and other road users.

Police approached Frett and told him to get out of the road. The accused man reportedly refused.

The police then physically removed the 58-year-old, who allegedly tried to put up a resistance.

The prosecution alleged that police then searched Frett and discovered two ‘very sharp’ knives tucked in his waistband under the shirt he was wearing.

The officers then confiscated the weapons.

It is said that Frett held the blade of one of the knives to prevent it from being taken from him. The knife eventually cut him.

When the law enforces asked Frett why he had the knives, he reportedly said: “That’s my f***g business. That’s not all of you business.”

Frett was charged. He will return to court for trial on September 5.
