Global tax group slams BVI as world’s #1 tax haven

The BVI is once again coming under renewed pressure, having been ranked the world’s number one corporate tax haven by global watchdog Tax Justice Network.

The organisation’s latest Corporate Tax Haven Index places the BVI first, followed by fellow British Overseas Territories Cayman Islands in second place and Bermuda in third.

Other British jurisdictions feature prominently. Jersey ranks 8th, Guernsey 12th, the Isle of Man 13th and the United Kingdom itself 19th. Further down the rankings, Gibraltar places 33rd, Anguilla 34th, Turks and Caicos Islands 37th and Montserrat 64th.

Among other Caribbean jurisdictions, the Bahamas ranks 11th, Curaçao 29th and Aruba 52nd.

The group noted that a high ranking does not necessarily establish illegal activity. Rather, they say the index measures how easily multinational companies can use a jurisdiction’s tax laws to shift profits and reduce taxes owed elsewhere.

At the same time, the advocacy group claims the UK and its offshore network account for 31 percent of global corporate tax abuse risks, costing European Union countries approximately €8 billion annually.

Growing UK pressure

The findings come as the UK continues pressing its Overseas Territories to increase financial transparency, particularly through publicly accessible beneficial ownership registers identifying the people who ultimately own companies.

The BVI introduced a legitimate-interest access system in April 2026, allowing qualifying applicants to request ownership information rather than opening its entire register to the public.

BVI authorities have defended this approach, citing privacy, security and constitutional concerns.

The continuing pressure on the BVI’s financial services industry comes amid increased efforts to expand the industry beyond traditional offerings and markets. The government has been increasing offerings in the digital assets space and seeking new clients in Latin America and India.

We do have Government in darkness and a SECRET airport and a reputation for corruption and drug dealing at the highest level (thanks Andrew) so no surprise we are number one at this.

No other country in the world is “making good money sittin’ down” like this; Millions and Millions. Where is it going? Certainly not back to the people’s needs.
“As of March 2026, there are 362,165 active entities recorded on the British Virgin Islands Company Register, with historical estimates ranging up to approximately 400,000 to 417,000 active international and business companies depending on the reporting period.” But we still need to ‘borrow’ 100 million dollars.

Will you answer the question? WHERE IS THE MONEY? Also, who is the Tax Justice Network? You guys just sit back and gobble up any bullshit being spewed because you don’t know any better. The BVI facilitates global business and will continue to do so despite the hate and foolishness by these pretend organizations. The UK is ranked 19th yet London is owned by the Sanctioned Russians and the banks hold the dirty money. Wake up and stop being an idiot!

  13. Makes you think says:

While I find this report and its methodology deeply flawed, my biggest takeaway is actually from BVI News.

It is interesting how rarely the platform highlights the positive developments and achievements coming out of the BVI’s financial services industry, yet seems quick to amplify negative reports. Very telling.

The report itself also fails to adequately consider the numerous international tax information exchange agreements and frameworks to which the BVI is a part of, or the Territory’s strong track record of compliance with international tax transparency and information-sharing standards.

These are significant factors that should form part of any credible and balanced assessment of the jurisdiction.

    It certainly makes you think.

The premise of this article and the whole argument makes no sense in free market Capitalist western economies. Firstly, corporations are expected to operate on the principle of maximizing profit once it is done by legal means. Secondly, the BVI does not stop any jurisdiction from setting their own tax regimes and penalties , which if they are so minded can address setting up a company in another jurisdiction (Psyche) and thirdly beneficial owner corporations can be held accountable with valid reasons through the English law principle of lifting the “corporate veil”. These a socialist , communist people trying to set up a world where people sit on their a…s, procreate and collect income from hard workers and innovators.
