‘Go Live’ of new information system delaying COVID results

The following is an announcement from the BVI Health Services Authority dated Friday, April 2, 2021.

The ‘Go Live’ of the BVI Health Services Authority’s new health information system is causing delays in persons receiving their COVID-19 test results.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Cedorene Malone-Smith said that persons can now expect their results in 36-48 hours instead of 24-36 hours.

According to the CEO, the Authority is currently in the process of transitioning from a dated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to a new and improved one.

“This necessary upgrade will make us more efficient in the administration of our day-to-day functioning. The upgrade will also improve our service delivery to the BVI community,” Mrs Smith said.

She further stated that the system upgrade will also assist in reducing delays and maintaining a high level of quality care at public healthcare facilities.

“We want to thank our hard-working staff for implementing our downtime backup procedures as we work to resolve this matter. Patient safety is and remains our top priority.”

The public is asked for its continued patience during this time as the Authority works diligently to serve with excellence and BVILOVE.

Any inconvenience experienced by the downtime associated with our new health information system transition is regretted.

Israel has a 20 second test approved and being used by the EU. Buy the damn tests and be done with all the nonsense. No lab, no wait. Do it at the airport and ferry dock and open up. Technology is moving rapidly forward and the BVI remains behind and dying.

  2. Smoke & Mirrors says:

The Lab does not use this system, in any way, shape or form. How about you pull my other leg, this one’s long enough. Stop making excuses for poor decision-making. The Lab Manager has taken vacation during a critical busy period. Who does that? Now the monkeys are running the zoo! Business as usual. But, that’s what happens when you have politicians running critical infrastructure, like healthcare.

When the seaports reopens and we aremore nusy because you will have more travellers how are they going to cope with all those tests? Imagine people are not travelling everyday right now lets say an average of ten per day how can you not get 10 results per day? They need more lab technicians if that is a problem it hace to much persons working atthe gateway not doing much they can be diverted to do other chores.

From sources deep within the HSA the implementation is in trouble as the consultants are fed up of the lady.

That system has very little to do with the covid-19 results! Also why would you choose now to switch to a new system? Reminds of PWD fixing the busiest roads during rush hour. Piss poor management! Rest of the world spits out results in mere hours.

Pay your staff the overtime they deserve. Move that woman that is causing all kinds of problems with the staff.

  8. Patience says:

Patience. By the end on next week things, i am sure will flow more smoothly. Everyone acting as if they never have a new software installed at your office. There is sure to be hiccups along with familarization and training. This is no little office. This is a large and very complex organization. Give them a little time to sort things out and stop the bashing. This is a step in the right direction.

I thought we were a model example for other countries to follow?

  11. WTF says:

Do they have any idea what this is costing the economy?! How do you schedule something that threatens what is left of tourism at its busiest period?! We knew there was a mass testing event coming up prior to the start of this supposed upgrade on the 31st, as well as easter weekend. Why not wait until the rush is over? Oh… wait… we don’t want tourism here.
All of this would be valid if it wasn’t the real problem. The lady at the lab has been personally responsible for getting us this far through her hard work. PAY HER DAMNED OVERTIME! It’s much cheaper than the cost on the economy… but wait… they don’t care because this only affects the Government’s bottom line… it’s not like they should be worried about the people for whom they work.

Feel free to go out and about while awaiting results. The monitoring device does nothing We had 3 in our group and turned them off, never charged them. Even wandered off the property to the beach and guess what, no alarms,no calls, no cared because it’s just part of the dog and pony show being put on

  14. And? says:

So who pays for the extra night (or two) in approved quarantine now for the inefficiency of the services we receive? Who pays for the extra day of a lost vacation? Persons are now expected to pay for taxis from the airport/ferry terminal to their place of quarantine but the fee of $175 that supposedly included the taxi fare has not been reduced. Govnt says the taxi fares should cost between $5-$30 but people have been charged $41 and $51 respectively out of the airport. This is becoming unaffordable and it seems that, that’s the Govnts plan. You don’t want tourists here and you don’t want residents to come home. You don’t want the economy to recover. Excuses all the time.

  18. Wondering says:

Why is Worldometer showing 34 cases in the BVI, as of today?

  19. One more example... says:

Just one more example of the government’s mismanagement of our tourism product.
    Thanks for nothin’.

  20. Give me a break says:

Pure hogwash. The system is broken and their new system is not the root cause of delayed results. We have bungling in three different areas…HSA. Public Health and the Ministry. They refuse to talk to each other to arrive at decent solutions but instead blame each other with each department sitting on their thrones. They ar enot realizing that its really not about them but about keeping us moving forward. Work together and above all when you are out of your league ask for help..that is the first step.

This now effectively gives us a possible 6 day quarantine period. we might as well say we are shutting tourism down.

Fish rots from the head. The head micromanages every single department and makes a mess of each.
