Governor appoints acting DMV boss

Bethsaida Smith-Hanley

An acting commissioner has been appointed for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Governor Augustus Jaspert appointed Bethsaida Smith-Hanley to the post last month after DMV boss Kye Rymer resigned to contest the February 25 general elections.

A media release from the DMV said Smith-Hanley, who holds a master’s degree in business administration, is now responsible for “ensuring the continual development of procedures and guidelines for the department, examining and licencing drivers and registering vehicles in accordance with laws, rules and regulations”.

“The Acting Commissioner will also manage the department’s challenges, activities, relationships, resources, development and networks. She will prepare and manage the department’s annual budget as the accounting officer for the department. Mrs Smith-Hanley’s role in the department will also involve coordinating departmental activities, including clerical inspections, licencing and registration; ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements,” the release said.

The acting DMV commissioner has worked in public service for more than 18 years and has served in capacities such as a senior administration officer and assistant secretary in the Cabinet Office, a planning officer in the Department of Information Technology, and private secretary in the Ministry of Communications & Works.
