Gov’t ending material grant assistance to hurricane-hit homeowners

Government is ending the segment of its Housing Recovery Assistance Programme that has been issuing material grants to homeowners since the 2017 hurricanes.

The Material Assistance Grants initiative is being dissolved at the end of this month.

Homeowners had been receiving these grants since November 2017. The grants were in the form of purchase orders raised on behalf of local suppliers.

“[Under the initiative], beneficiaries were able to use these purchase orders to pay for materials needed in the amount of $2,500. However, some beneficiaries have not collected their items with the raised purchase orders hence the deadline of October 31 is given to close the programme so that local suppliers are paid,” explained Tasha Bertie, the Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development.

A media release from the ministry this week reminded beneficiaries to submit their purchase orders to their identified supplier by October 31 in order to ensure they are honoured.
