Gov’t gives land for youth centre on Virgin Gorda
The government recently approved a transfer of crown land on Virgin Gorda for the construction of a youth empowerment centre.
The size of the land was not revealed, but Cabinet documents say the land was granted to the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) Foundation. The foundation will construct and run the centre.
The Cabinet documents also indicate that the building will be built as specified by YEP and must be completed within five years. The government said failure to do so will result in the land being forfeited by the crown.
YEP is a privately funded programme that began operations in 2007. Since its inception, it has provided programming and support to more than 3,000 local youth.
According to the Cabinet documents, when the decision was being made to grant the land to YEP, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Trade and Labour, Lorna Smith recused herself from the meeting because of her membership on the board of YEP.
At-Large Representative Stacey ‘Buddha’ Mather is also a YEP leader but wasn’t present at the meeting as he isn’t a member of the Cabinet.

This is great news for the youngsters of Virgin Gorda. A Ray of Hope for everyone. I just hope the Elected Rep don’t take credit for achieving this as it was already in the pipeline long before him. Ask Ex-Hon. Flax-Charles. Thanks to the YEP Foundation
and other Non-profit Organizations. That’s Vision for our territory’s future Leaders and Entrepreneurs. Initiatives like these give us hope for the future of these Virgin Islands. Thanks, Thanks and Thanks!!! Thanks be to God for Great things he has done!!!
Good news indeed, but in the name of transparency and accountability could you please enlighten us about YEP, its aims and objectives, directors, etc.
Thank you.
Why is every deal with Vincent always missing details?
The people deserve to be properly informed Mr. Minister.
