Gov’t likely to dissolve Miami-based BVIPA LLC

A Florida-based limited liability company (LLC) that raised eyebrows earlier this year following the arrest of former Premier Andrew Fahie is likely to be dissolved, current Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has indicated.

A limited liability company is a business structure in the US that protects its owners from personal responsibility for its debts or liabilities.

Communication and Works Minister Kye Rymer previously explained that the Miami-registered LLC was set up on behalf of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) as a means of conducting business in the US district, noting at the time that it was simply an ‘outreach location’.

But while relating to the press that Rymer was the appropriate government member to address the matter, Dr Wheatley said Rymer was actively engaged on the matter of the BVIPA’s LLC and said he did not believe that the LLC is currently doing business.

The Premier either needs to tell all or just hush on this matter. The reality is that there was NO REAL VALID REASON for this LLC to be set up. The BVIPA has been in existence for how long and didn’t need an LLC, so why now? The BVITB doesn’t have a Miami or other US office set up to do business on behalf of the BVI? This entire thing stinks and it seems they will move quickly to dissolve it so that it goes away.

We need answers rather than a rush to dissolve the company. How much was spent in rent, who used it, for what purpose, was it fraudulent to perpetuate being a legitimate “BVI Port” business, what actions would be taken against those that committed this fraud.
