Gov’t reintroducing voucher programme to feed needy post-lockdown

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr has announced that needy families across the territory could be further assisted through another voucher programme.

Families requiring food during weeks of lockdown because of COVID-19 were fed using a home-delivery system spearheaded by the Government of the Virgin Islands. That delivery programme has since ended.

“Cabinet is currently discussing now how persons who are on the list will be fed, utilizing a voucher system,” the Deputy Governor stated.

In the meantime, he praised those who assisted in distributing the food items. He said more than 125 persons including 90 public officers fed more than 7,000 families.

“It was really amazing to watch,” he stated.

The previous voucher system that implemented at the start of the first lockdown saw some residents attempting to obtain multiple food vouchers from different ministers of government.

Persons also dishonestly obtained food during the home delivery welfare programme by ordering multiple times from the same household.

That not true i fill out the form on all now i dont get any food that distribute to people’s.i called no answer.

  2. Humble says:

Filling out the form was one but then it ask for specifics they should make sure at least pack a little package with suff for diabetic or hypertension especially families with children under 3 upon reaching the families that include those underlying problems a package should be given to them

  3. Concern Citizen says:

The home delivery of food seems like it was for certain people & not everyone. Some people got so much while others got nothing at all. I personally think the government should have distributed food vouchers to families instead in amount of whatever $$$$ & the people go to shop for themselves.

  4. Expat says:

I applied since April 22nd, 2020 for assistance with government essentials and nothing came to me despite of many calls I made to the hotlineline and they promised that delivery is on its way.
This was about faces and friends, many people who worked government and banks that was still having a salary applied for this program and get many items while the ones without any salary gets nothing.
This pandemic still cannot change some people.
