Gov’t seeking land space for junior high school plans

Sharie de Castro

The government remains in search of available land space for a promised junior high school campus, Education Minister Sharie deCastro has confirmed.

The minister made that disclosure during a recent press conference where she discussed issues such as the maintenance and upkeep of educational facilities in the territory.

Minister deCastro explained that the government is seeking to solidify plans with the First District community for a junior high school in that area.

The government previously revealed that a junior school will likely be placed at the location of the former Isabella Morris Primary School in Carrot Bay which was destroyed by hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.

According to deCastro, the government plans to re-engage with the community one last time to ensure that the needs of the community are properly understood and that the government’s vision for the project is in sync with the community.

“We are also currently seeking to identify land space in the Seventh and Eighth Districts to be able to facilitate a junior school in that area,“ the minister told reporters.

Minister deCastro said an update on the government’s ongoing plans for junior high schools will likely come sometime during the first quarter of this year.

The government previously disclosed that demolition works had been done at the Isabella Morris Primary School and roughly $200,000 had been allocated to fund the development of a “modern, smart and safe” facility for students and teachers of Carrot Bay.

  7. There is Enough says:

There is enough land at the Elmore Stoutt High School to place a Junior High, a proper gym for athletes, a multi-story parking garage for teachers, and more.

It does not have to be a concrete jungle, so create some green space as you build. Demolish old one and two-story buildings as you build new multi-level buildings. You just dedicated buildings that followed the same concept. Juniors and Seniors on the same compound can work. They are already identified by the difference in uniform.

Fully present a proper plan to the people on the current compound and utilise it before coming to the people to discuss looking for land for a Junior High. Stop with the politics and plan out the current space properly.

  10. No way to treat your people. says:

Civil servants are due increments years over due.

Retired civil servants are due incremnts years over due.

Retired teachers are due increments years over due and are suffering.

Yet, what the message that is being projected here is, we don’t give a rats ass about all yo. We going let all yo go to yo grave then we go pay alyo. That is what they are telling us civil servants.

We know there is a need for a Junior High, and we hope it comes on line soon.

But, we also know that many retirees and current servants are struggling due to the high cost of every thing and inflation.

Sad the anxiety we live with for years wonderng, hoping and decending, with each budget, deeper in depth and depression.

Thank you VIP. Thank you NDP. Thank you VIP. Thank yu Unity Government. Thank you UK overseers. Misery peddlers the whole lot.

Been to many years now, That is no way to treat your people.

  11. Virgin Gordian says:

Hon. DeCastro at least you are on to something while Vincent nor Shereen are asking when the Primary will be separated from the High in Virgin Gorda after
swapping Prime waterfront Real Estate in Leverick Bay for a small portion between two Boulders. Not a fair exchange and everyone quiet
    concerning that issue.

  12. Really? says:

If y’all didn’t waste the land space building the waste of time structure on the property you would have more than space to proceed.

Total waste on land space at the ESHS

  13. Hmm says:

Use you’ll dam crown land!! The farmers can’t get them to use so go put a school!!

  14. Idea says:

    Prospect Reef.
We own it. It needs to knock down and do something positive for the territory.

  15. No Vision says:

Everything here is a mess. Riel George reserved land in EE\LL for a high school. I heard one past politician boast ” I found seven Plots and I gave them out.” That is the land that Riel George was advised to reserve. None of our elected representatives ever have a clue about anything that is beneficial they are a bunch of sell outs… Modern Day Judas. The New World Order motto is “you will own nothing and be happy” and our retards are unknowingly down with the program. As the vice tightens many who believe that they have it going on now will be relieved of their possession. Mark my words. There are certain projects under construction now that seem quite innocent but are designed to wreak havoc on the population and it is not white people doing it but our local clueless retards.

  16. Prospect Reef! says:

We own it. Needs rebuild for positive purpose.

  17. Deh Watcha says:

  18. @ NoVision says:
