Gov’t to begin granting land titles to Anegada residents next month

Wheatley

More residents of Anegada will have titles to their land in a matter of weeks, Minister for Natural Resources, Labour & Immigration, Vincent Wheatley has said.

He explained that, as promised during the VIP’s election campaign, this will be done by “finalising the outstanding land issues and moving speedily on the creation of the land bank”.

“While some of these issues are straight forward, there are some of them that are more intricate in nature and will take a bit more time. Therefore, I ask for your patience and understanding. But, rest assured these matters will be addressed and, and it is hoped that as early as next month, April, we will begin granting land titles to people of Anegada.”

The Natural Resources Minister said granting land titles to Anegada residents’ land is of ‘great importance’ to the Premier Fahie government and pledged to move swiftly to address them.

He gave that assurance while addressing the First Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Fixing Virgin Gorda’s banking issue

While describing the unavailability of a bank on Virgin Gorda as a ‘frustrating and vexing issue’, Wheatley pledges to restore banking services to the island in short order.

Virgin Gorda has been without a bank since last year after Scotiabank pulled out of the island and merged their services with its Tortola branch.

Prior to Scotiabank’s departure, CIBC First Caribbean bank which sustained damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017, closed their sole location on the sister island.

The National Bank of the Virgin Islands and Banco Popular are said to be exploring the possibility of opening respective branches on the island and restore banking services to Virgin Gorda once more.

It will get us backwards not forward. We do extremely well when we ignore those who attempt to put us down and cause devision.

Look at the mess overseas is in. Please stop trying to make us believe the grass is greener on the other side. We know better.

Watch how fast these lands get put up for sale. Family members who never been here claiming lands and selling as fast as they can.

@Fire sale: And in fifty or less years they and or their off spring will be excluded from setting foot on it, except to maybe clean, cook and make a house or two for minimum wage, which will not be more than a few dollars even by then.

The lesson we have to gt out is, stop selling our lands. It is one of their strategies of recolonisation.

Look at the great loos the Vanterpol’s have taken versus the benefit the country has gained with the sale robbery of just Spring Bay’s lands.

    We had better wake up.

“At least I left my people with land.” R. Mugabe. Mandela left his with quotes, poems, a bridge and a statue”.

Today, many have and experience real pain when they see all the land that was stolen from them for a few pennies.

Spring Bay, Trunk Bay and Dix Bay come to mind. Spring was the greatest atrocity. It was practically taken from the Vanterpool’s
