Gov’t to host community on JVD amid outcry from residents

Jost Van Dyke

Following a recent outcry from members of the Jost Van Dyke community, Premier Andrew Fahie has announced that he will be bringing a delegation to the sister island on Thursday to address the concerns of residents.

A media release from the office of the Premier said the goal of the community meeting is to allow for government legislators to share their ideas and plans for the island.

“We look forward to hearing from members of the Jost Van Dyke community. I always count it important to meet with residents of the sister islands to discuss their concerns and solutions because we’re in this together, and BVILOVE is our people of Jost Van Dyke,” Premier Fahie stated.

The delegation of legislators expected to join the Premier are Deputy Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, Territorial At-Large Representatives Neville Smith, Carvin Malone, Sharie DeCastro and Shereen Flax-Charles.

Minister of Natural Resources Labour & Immigration Vincent Wheatley, as well as Minister for Transportation Works & Utilities Kye Rymer, and Sixth District Representative Alvera Maduro-Caines will also be present.

Meeting comes also after plea by District Rep

In late August, Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull, who is the Representative of the Second Electoral District which includes Jost Van Dyke, called on the government to address the multitude of existing issues on the sister island.

Among the issues, he highlighted the need for the Jost Van Dyke Primary School to be relocated, the many deteriorating roads, flooding issues, lack of water in a number of areas, and need to address the ferry terminal.

He also called for the government to stimulate economic activity on the island to reduce the need for persons having to travel to Tortola for everything.

The meeting is scheduled to commence at 11 am at Foxy’s Restaurant.

Here it comes. A gas attack by the Foy. He will listen and agree with the people, promise to take care of all their concerns and then he will do nothing. Same sh*t different day.

I do not agree with everything the Premier and his Government does but most persons are impressed with all they are doing in this crisis. All a few people do is complain even when they are getting help. People like them are the ungrateful ones. Keep up the good work Premier.

So D2 Rep. Hon. Turnbull is not part of the delegation of legislators? I hope he was invited but I know he will make it his business to be there anyway, if he wasn’t.

  4. Really Now says:

You guys are welcome to come on over. HOWEVER, please keep it real with the citizens of JVD. We all that live on JVD needs to band together, fix up our quaint little Island by ourselves so we don’t have to deal with the Government for anything.

  5. Lodger says:

Will the delegation be back in time to tell us about the protocols for reopening the borgers?
