Gov’t to host free concert to celebrate AA service to BVI

R City performing

To celebrate the resumption of non-stop flights to the territory, the government will be hosting a free concert on June 30, that will feature internationally acclaimed acts such as R. City, Monay, Vibe and reggae artiste Konshens.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said the event will be dubbed “the Non-stop Concert” and will be held at Brandywine Bay.

“Not only is this concert a celebration of our non-stop service between Miami and Beef Island, it signals the government’s commitment to entertainment tourism which enhances our overall tourism product,” Premier Wheatley explained.

He later told journalists that the BVI Tourist Board has been given a grant of $250,000 to host the concert.

“I can also announce an initiative where the government is investing $50,000 in our Virgin Islands artists. This investment is to help them grow, develop and take their artistry to the next level. It will be managed by the Festival & Fairs Committee,” Premier Wheatley added.

He also said the community can look forward to the return of Music Fest in 2024.

    3. The Premier has been paid his outstanding increments.

  12. Common Sense says:

Ancient Rome collapsed as a society through corruption and a break down in basic morals and good governance. Their government kept people happy through providing “bread and circuses”. Present-day BVI provides “bread” by employing a huge number of voters in unnecessary jobs, while this concert is a perfect example of a “circus”. A look around the mess that is now Tortola, with bars, trash and derelict vehicles everywhere, as well as terrible roads, power cuts and a lack of drinking water to all homes, indicates that the BVI is heading down the same road to internal collapse.

  22. NON-STOP CONCERT HE CALLS IT says:

Sounds so STUPID – “Non-stop Concert”. More like NON-STOP BUFFOONERY!!

They quick to USE God to attempt to SWAY VOTES by bringing gospel artists during election while acting holy. The same Premier was in church last year claiming to be remorseful and repentant after the former disgraced Premier’s alleged criminal activities.

Now, he got elected, look the secular show being put on.

NO-ONE CARES ABOUT THROWING A CONCERT FOR DIRECT FLIGHTS TO THE BVI!!

THE FLIGHTS ARE HERE – MOVE ON TO SENSIBLY INVESTING IN THE ECONOMY!

Blasting music all day is no positive image for VI tourism.
But then again loud music in an unidentifiable and unintelligible language as an introduction to garbage strewn damaged streets water scarcity, news headlines announcing another black male murder, perpetrator unidentified, loose and roamng….sounds about right and meets expectations of a typical Black dominated community.
Carry On! Show the visitors who you are.

  31. Redstorm says:

I think it open a gate way for artists to know about the direct flight, which has a high probability to attract others from the Miami areas.

Tourist destinations has a lot of work to do to attract the people to BVI. From the way they are greeted, set a mood of security, comfort and acceptance. So, when we write bad, ignorant, and no facts about BVI we decreased the opportunities to attract certain types of visitors.

Now I have visited Kenya, and the taxi people hussle you, the 15$ fee to your hotel becomes 30$ when they see visitors, in some countries young children on the beaches beg for a dollar or more. This kind of hussle do not happen here. Visitors can stay on the beaches , undisturbed. When people want quietness in certain areas and they received that quietness, they personally advertised this island to others, tell, a friend to tell a friend increased our opportunities. So let’s start a moment of good things about our islands.

Come on Premier. There are Civil Servants who is not getting any Increments for some unfair and personal reasons. Why we willing to waste money of things like this event when we can put this money to better use at this time. A lot of our people are hurting badly out here. Yes, they have a job but with the High Cost of living they are struggling badly. VIP Government let’s HELP the people and stop spending the money on stupidness. Now is not the time for this. AA offering services here is BVI will not stop persons from still taking Jet Blue, Spirit or whoever from St.Thomas.
