Gov’t welcomes TransAnguilla Airways inaugural flight
The government has welcomed the launch of a new direct air service between Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands, describing it as a significant step in improving regional connectivity and strengthening long-standing ties between the two territories.
Speaking at the inaugural arrival, Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer said the new route represents more than a transport link.
“Today we don’t just mark a launch of a new airline route, we tie a stronger knot between two overseas sister islands that share the same turquoise sea, the same warm spirit and a deep mutual respect,” Rymer stated.
He noted that travellers have historically had to transit through other destinations, adding time and inconvenience to journeys between the territories. “For too long, travellers between our beautiful territories have had to connect through other hubs, adding hours to a journey that should take mere minutes. Today, you have solved that,” Rymer said.
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley echoed those sentiments, describing the inaugural TransAnguilla Airways flight as “another important milestone in strengthening regional air connectivity.” He said the new service reflects both the “deep bonds between our two Territories and the growing opportunities for travel, business, and partnership across our region.”
The Premier pointed out that while the route between Tortola and Anguilla is new, the airline has already been operating charter services within the territory. “The addition of this new direct scheduled service… represents an expansion of TransAnguilla’s presence in the BVI,” Dr Wheatley stated.
He added that the new route will improve access to international travel. “This route opens up convenient opportunities for travellers from the BVI to access connecting flights through Anguilla to the US mainland and other destinations in the Caribbean and beyond,” Premier Wheatley said.
Both officials also highlighted the cultural and familial ties between the two territories. Dr Wheatley said many residents maintain “family, cultural, and professional ties to Anguilla, and this service will make it easier for them to stay connected.”
The Anguilla Tourist Board has championed the initiative under the theme “Strengthening Regional Connectivity,” which the Premier said reflects a commitment to making travel within the Caribbean “more accessible, more efficient, and more supportive of tourism, commerce, and people-to-people exchange.”
The government also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, including the BVI Airports Authority, Tourist Board, and other partners involved in bringing the service into operation.
Premier Wheatley said the administration remains committed to expanding airlift. “The government of the Virgin Islands stands ready to support the continued growth of airlift and the expansion of opportunities in our aviation sector,” he stated.
The inaugural flight is expected to create new opportunities for tourism, business travel and regional integration between the neighbouring territories.

The round trip rate is usd 418.00 per person.
This is a positive and much needed step for regional travel. A direct Anguilla to BVI route will save time, reduce hassle, and strengthen long standing cultural and family ties between the territories. Improved air connectivity like this supports tourism, encourages business growth, and promotes greater regional cooperation, which is exactly what the Caribbean needs.
We don’t need a longer runaway and big jets. We need additional and reliable connection to the other islands and specially to the ones with larger airports (like SJU, SXM, ANU).
