Gov’t worker pleads guilty to cocaine possession, claims not be supplier

Not the cocaine mentioned in the story

A government employee was granted $70,000 signed bail after he was found with a quantity of cocaine on November 3, 2017.

Charged with possession of 31.4 grams of the drug, and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply is Joel Vanterpool.

He pleaded guilty to having possession of the drug but not guilty to possession with intent to supply to another.

What prosecutors say happened

The court heard that about 4:40 pm on the day in question, police reportedly observed the accused driving a heavily tinted vehicle in the Port Purcell area of Tortola.

Law enforcers reportedly signalled to Vanterpool to stop, to which he complied.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a transparent plastic bag with cocaine and a quantity of dime bags on the front passenger seat, the court was told.

Vanterpool was arrested and brought to the Road Town Police station. While there, he was invited to conduct an interview, but he refused.

He is scheduled to return to court on June 17.

Attorney-at-law Leroy Jones represents the accused.
