Govt’s main phone lines down since last week

Residents have not been able to access government through its main telephone lines for days now.

This is said to be the result of technical difficulties with their fixed phone-line providers, Flow.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Anthony McMaster told BVI News the problems began late last week but is now more than 90 percent resolved.

“Quite a bit of the service are now back up and running but the main line that transmits across government departments – (284) 494-3701 – they are working on bringing that one back up.”

McMaster said he expects the problem to be resolved before the week ends.

He said persons should be able to successfully call the various government departments directly, in the meantime.

“Internally, within government, the system is working so departments can communicate back and forth with each other,” the permanent secretary said.

Government primarily uses Flow for their fixed-line services but all three of the main local telecoms companies are contracted to provide cellular and internet service to government, McMaster said.

Once all the fixed and cell phone lines are repaired it would be really helpful to BVI residents for the BVI government to post on-line an accurate and current list of all the cell & fixed phone numbers for ALL the government departments and related agencies. The on-line phone list could be easily updated weekly or monthly since some government phone numbers seem to regularly change or are cut-off.
