Greater representation now guaranteed for sister islands

Shereen Flax-Charles

Immediately on the heels of the 2019 General Elections where the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) won eight of 13 seats, residents of the sister islands have been assured greater representation under the newly-elected Andrew Fahie-led administration.

This assurance came from Territorial At-Large VIP representative, Shereen Flax-Charles, who resides on the sister island of Virgin Gorda.

She described the type of representation the sister islands will receive as “prominent “. This, she said, is because the sister islands community now has both her and Vincent Wheatley — the newly-elected representative of the Ninth District where Virgin Gorda and Anegada are located.

Flax-Charles, who has been a long-time advocate for the often-neglected Ninth District, said greater representation for the sisters does not mean less representation for the rest of the territory.

“We are not going to rest until we get things done and we fix the British Virgin Islands,” she told BVI News on Monday night. “We want to make sure that everyone feels included and we are working for everyone. So it is very important that we have representation across the board and no district should be left out.”

Meanwhile, Wheatley said he expects “a very difficult task” ahead to represent the District 9.

“I think the amount of work that it requires needs full-time dedication that only a team like VIP can bring at this time. So I am pleased to be on the team that we have, and I think we are going to do great things with God’s help,” he said.

The VIP seized victory over the National Democratic Party by winning four district seats and four Territorial At-large seats.

Congratulations to you and Butch both.

    i have two major concerns:

1.Please do not sell any more of our lands to the highest white bidder. We are now almost a landless people.

    2. Be sure that the last only locally owned beach front left in VG for locals to frequent stays in the family.

Any one who thinks that brother D—–m—— to that w—- w— is o– of l—for him is totally out of touch with the ways and thinking of the w—- man.

That is the last locally owned prime piece of billion dollar real estate property and money making machine in VG, going into perpetuity, and they want it out of local hands and into theirs. We would be fools to allow that.

Long live Fisher’s Cove, and may it remain in the Flax’s hands forever!

Nothing like some fresh racist remarks right after the election. We will see how things go after the U.K. requires dissolving “belonger status”. Maybe even a white premier next election!!!

“Anonymous”, truer words have not been spoken!

And the Flax family would be in a state of utter negligence to sell their birthright for a “bowl of porridge”, thereby denying future generations, generational wealth, in the same manner that their forefathers had envisioned for them!

Such an important landmark in the continued development of the peoples of these Virgin Islands; that beautiful beachfront property of Fischers Cove!
