The government has broken ground for the construction of a new Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre — a school for differently-students in the British Virgin Islands.

This follows last Friday’s contract-signing ceremony for the project valued at $3,959,690.15. The multimillion-dollar redevelopment was awarded to Autland Heavy Equipment Co. Ltd.

While endorsing the project being done through the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said he hopes for the new school to improve integration and interaction for its students.

Those students have been housed at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School since the destruction of their facility during Hurricanes Irma and Maria back in 2017.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Sharie de Castro said the project holds immense promise for the future of the Virgin Islands.

“Today, we gather with renewed determination and enthusiasm as we embark on a journey to rebuild the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre,” de Castro stated.

“The new school will provide an education that is inclusive, empowering, and aligned with our territory’s mandate to educate all children. Education is a universal right and we firmly believe that every child, regardless of their abilities, or disability deserves an education that is tailored to their individual needs,” she added.

Let’s be positive community. The students of the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning centered are now getting the infrastucture to support their unique academic learning needs. I’m so happy that the Gov’t is investing in them from the ground up. NOt putting them in trailers or retrofitting some building but from the design concept, creating a building to deliver what they need to learn. That’s equity, that’s inclusion and I’m happy its happening for them.

So what happens to the building where they were before Irma?

You can you compare that building to the high school project.

You just prove to me some of you bloggers just like to talk s**t for no reason.
