Gunman gets nine years for UP’s Cineplex robberies

The High Court sentenced Kimron White to nine years and 27 days in prison for robbing three men at gunpoint in the UP’s Cineplex car park in Road Town, Tortola.
Justice Angelica Teelucksingh handed down the sentence in July after White pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of possessing the proceeds of criminal conduct.
According to the agreed facts, four men were talking in the car park shortly after 11 pm on June 11, 2023 when White, his face partly covered, ran towards them with a gun. He held it to Jovan Cline’s ribs and demanded money. When Cline turned towards him, White struck him in the forehead with the gun. He also struck Oneyke Huggins in the head, causing him to fall.
Cline and Brent Hoyte handed over their iPhones, valued at US$700 and US$1,300 respectively. White then threatened to shoot Kennel Stoute, who handed over two gold chains valued at a combined US$8,000. White fled over a wall. Cline and Huggins both received treatment at Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital.
Police reviewed footage from cameras at the Cineplex, the Tax Authority Office and a nearby petrol station. The footage showed two men arriving on a scooter and swapping clothes behind parked vehicles. An officer identified White as the man who ran towards the group. White later admitted taking the men’s belongings during an interview with police.
Teelucksingh imposed terms of nine years and 27 days each for the robberies of Hoyte and Cline, and six years and 27 days for the robbery of Stoute. She sentenced White to time served for the assault and proceeds offences and ordered all five sentences to run concurrently.
The judge gave White a one-third reduction for his guilty pleas and credited him with two years, 11 months and three days on remand. In mitigation, she considered that he was 19 at the time of the offences, had no previous convictions, showed remorse and had prospects for rehabilitation.
Teelucksingh also ordered White to take part in education and vocational programmes in prison and to receive counselling, including for anger management and substance misuse.

Nine years for robbery at gun point…..how many years did he get for having an illegal weapon….ridiculous,,,that is why they will never stop because of these light sentences.
Two man involved in this robbery. Only one goes before the court. He slapped two of my friends with the gun a threaten a third to shoot them. The second person still out there and he still gets a discount. Thats some BS.
