A news outlet in Guyana is reporting that one of the five persons found dead in the Territory after Hurricane Irma struck has been identified as Derek Ragnauth, a Guyanese man who was living on Tortola.

The 55-year-old man was killed while inside his shop, the Demerara Waves reported yesterday.

“A close relative said she was informed that the roof of Ragnauth’s shop in Tortola caved in and killed him during the passage of the monster storm. Ragnauth’s family members were not with him when disaster struck,” according to the report.

Condolence messages have begun to pour in on social media from relatives and friends of the deceased.

“My greatest sympathies to the families of Derek Ragnauth who perished in the wrath of Irma. RIP dear cousin,” said Pauline Sukhai in a post on Facebook.

“My deepest sympathies to the family and friends… rip,” said Shenny Lall in another Facebook post.

“So sad, my condolences to the family,” another post read.
