Harneys pays for life-saving technology for VISAR

Not the exact AED mentioned in the story.

Financial services firm Harneys has donated $6,535 for the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) group to purchase a key piece of life-saving technology for rescues.

This technology is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) which is a portable device used to potentially stop a sudden episode of cardiac arrest by sending an electric shock through the chest to the heart.

Julie Schneider of VISAR described the defibrillator purchased as ‘an advanced model’.

“The AED model is one of the newest systems existing and while we wish that we never have to use it, it has been proven to give a person who has suffered a cardiac arrest the best chance of survival until we can get them to the hospital,” she said.

Meanwhile, Managing Partner at Harneys, Colin Riegels, said his firm is happy to assist VISAR in their mission of saving lives at sea.

“Safety is paramount in any location at any time, so preparation and quickness is key. The AED is a lifesaving piece of equipment that provides crucial assistance to VISAR’s crew,” he said.

Now, if we can only have more businesses donating these life-saving devices to be placed in strategic areas around the country, such as ferry docks, supermarkets, churches, schools, community centers, shopping malls and gas stations, would help a great deal, to the saving of lives in times of danger.

Government support with regards to funding, would be greatly appreciative in this matter, especially in areas of massive public traverse!
