Hedging bets! Malone blasts Fraser over one-member party status

Malone.

Territorial At-Large Representative with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Carvin Malone, has heaped scorn on the prospect of Third District Representative, Julian Fraser, working together in government with his newfound allies — the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), and National Democratic Party (NDP).

Malone pointed out at a recent District 7 campaign event that Fraser did not even have other party members to run with during this election cycle and remarked that he was alone as Chairman of the Progressives United (PU) during a recent debate with party leaders.

The VIP is the only party with a full slate of 13 candidates for the upcoming polls set for April 24.

“One member can make up a team?” Malone asked. “You’re coming to a leadership meeting and it’s only you? You’re independent. You can’t come to a party meeting with leadership, and you’re only leading yourself… wait until you get the second member and then you’d be invited to a party leadership meeting. If the camera was off I could say a little bit more.”

“I’ve heard [Fraser] stating that his only purpose in life is to make sure the Virgin Islands Party never makes it back [into office] as a team, so he’s hedging his bets,” Malone added.

Malone also warned constituents against supporting the candidacy of Seventh District independent candidate Perline Scatliffe-Leonard, who is competing against current Premier and Chairman of the VIP, Dr Natalio Wheatley, suggesting this meant they too may be hedging their bets in doing so.

“You can’t trade your premier in for someone who even cannot join a team,” Malone said of Scatliffe-Leonard. “If you can’t join a team today, why would you join a team tomorrow?”

Uneasy alliances?

Meanwhile, Fraser has been adamant throughout this election campaign that the VIP must be removed from office at the next polls at all costs. That posture has seen him form soft alliances with the other main parties; seeking to achieve that very feat.

Among other things, Fraser has blamed the VIP for his district’s continued water woes, the poor state of the territory’s economy, as well as the territory’s crumbling infrastructure. And while depicting the VIP as a mutual enemy to his potential allies in government, Fraser portrayed the incumbent governing party in serpentine terms as he pleaded his case for their removal.

“I am confident that we are going to have in our next House of Assembly a coalition government,” Fraser predicted during his campaign launch. “I have called the leaders of the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement and the other party to let them know in no uncertain terms, there’s one enemy out there. That’s the Virgin Islands Party, we got to cut the head off that snake.”

“They’re jealous of you for having me. I’m good at what I do. That’s why you keep sending me back,” Fraser told supporters during his launch. “And I’m asking you to do it one more time — the seventh time.”

Fraser have a point. Malone forget he crossed the floor at one point? Which party was he on when he crossed the floor? I am for anyone who calling out VIP for the destruction they have caused this country. The VIP Government have ruined lives now and for generations to come but there is still hope to turn it around. There is still a better solution.

Malone all you do is talk about this and that person you haven’t told us what your plans are if you were elected. It’s been over 3 years we are burning garbage on the hill in Pock Wood Pond and you were the health minister and haven’t done anything about it, but you are putting down everyone who is not a VIP we will be crazy to put you back in there or any member of the VIP.

Right about now, I am so tired of these people who have no right to talk and CONTINOUSLY spew nonsense about other political candidates. Try telling us what you will do for the country for a change.

I remember when Lorna Smith came out, I was the first to say, she will likely not make it, but Lorna has held such a positive campaign, that a large percentage of people actually believe she has a good shot. Malone, try a different approach for a change! But then again, it is too late for you and many on your TEAM. Carry on!!!

We once imported mongeese to kill poisonous snakes that were a danger to all.

Now we need votes to kill the VIPERS which are an even bigger danger.

Malone is right and the people of this Territory continue to let things slide based on who is who. How can Fraser/PU be considered a Political Party when he is the only candidate? The man is an Independent Candidate, call it what it is.

Many people are not paying enough attention to the maneuvering of NDP and pvim to manipulate the election process!

These underhanded strategies cooked up by Claude Cline is bound to backfire on the ones responsible.

VIP is fighting above the fray, and the young leader stands out for courage and vision in these challenging times. N. Wheatley carries the hope of a new generation!

    • let me get this straight says:

The VIP have serious questions to ask themselves.
They were complicit in nurturing, incubating and foisting Andrew Fahie and his cabal on the Territory, which has taken our progress back into the last century. Malone in particular cannot have been ignorant of his monumental greed.
Like hyenas they are laughing at us, wanting another opportunity to groom the electorate.
      Enough!

It’s neither here nor there whether he is a one man party or independent, Malone seemingly is trying to distract the people with foolishness. Stay focused on what is important when selecting candidates, this has no bearing on whether Fraser is a good candidate or not.

  19. The irony says:

While Fraser is a one-man party because his party consists of one man, the VIP is a one-man party under head coach, even though they comprise of more than one. This is the irony. They are all followers. No leaders.
