I live in the fear of the Lord!

Dr Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley yesterday declared that the lives in “the fear of the Lord”.

He made the statement while speaking at a special church service to mark the end of a time of prayer and fasting that the leader commissioned across the territory.

The Premier asked the community to pray and fast from January 19 to 25, saying the territory has been confronted with various challenges since the start of the year. He said it was important to seek divine guidance and intervention while acknowledging the Lord’s unwavering blessings.

While addressing the audience at the special service, Premier Wheatley said the special unity event was not merely a show as he knows that “God is not to be mocked.”

“There will be some who will question whether this service of unity is a show, whether it’s part of a political charade. Let me assure you that I live in the fear of the Lord and I know God is not to be mocked,” the Premier said. “We must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Though man may say one thing or the other, God knows the content of our heart.”

As the threat of additional powers for the next BVI governor looms over the territory, Premier Wheatley used the special church service to repent for any failings of the community, saying, “we all fall short of the glory of God.”

“We acknowledge that we are imperfect and fall short of the glory of God. But with a contrite heart, we ask for forgiveness and repent of all the ways we have fallen short. We repent for all we have done that we shouldn’t have and all we didn’t do that we should have done. We acknowledge that a tree is known by its fruits, therefore, we reaffirm that as leaders and as people we must bear fruits of love, kindness, patience, forgiveness, faithfulness and humility,” Premier Wheatley added.

Several spiritual leaders from across the territory led the ceremony where special prayers were offered up for the territory’s institutions, leaders and civil servants who deliver public services on a daily basis.

Premier Wheatley called on the spiritual leaders to council and lead in matters of the spirit, saying their role in society is very important. Dr Wheatley further said he’d like to partner with them and support their work.

There is still no word on whether the UK will grant additional powers to incoming governor, Daniel Pruce, who will carry on his predecessor’s legacy of ensuring that the good governance reforms recommended by the Commission of Inquiry (COI) are implemented by the elected governments.

Since the Governor threatened to increase his powers, Premier Wheatley has embarked on a new campaign to get support against the UK from Opposition legislators, churches, residents and the international community. He said the former governor’s threat is an affront to democracy and is unfair since his government has been working hard to implement the good governance reforms from the COI.

Natalio lives in the fear of god…

    However:

    – he has not publically distanced himself from drug dealers.
    – he allows his ministers to steal from the government (covid grants, fishermen grants, farmer grants)
    – he voted in favour of CSC contracts (corrupt)
    – he voted in favour of barge contracts (corrupt)

You know that was Andrew. You shouldn’t slander people just b/c you don’t like their politics. There’s enough things we can actually criticize him for that are actually true.

I think I prefer my politicians to be living in the glow of God’s love and mercy, rather than in fear.

I will never disrespect anyone’s personal religious belief; however, I have a major problem with any politician who mixes their politics with their religion.

In my judgement, there is nothing wrong with a politician being guiding in their own personal lives by their religions faith; however, I see a problem when they want to run the country using their faith.

Politicians are elected to lead and find solutions to the country’s problems, not to pray and fast or encourage the country to do likewise. We did not elect a religious leader to lead us down a religious path. We did not elect a Moses to take us to the promise land.

If they want to pray and fast in their own personal lives, by all means pray and fast but leave the rest of us out of it.

I personally cannot afford to skip a meal, and I know God understands why.

The BVI is NOT a theocracy, and I dislike when these politicians want to run the country or guide it in any way as if it were.

In this neck of the woods, politicians don’t seem to see any problem with interjecting their religious belief with their politics. I dislike it.

I truly appreciate countries that operate on the principle that there should be a separation between church and state.

Now, this kind of talk reminds me of Head Coach. It’s like Head Coach 2. The image of Head Coach on his knees with both hands up in the air comes to mind as I read this article.

He was on his knees before blank hit the fan. Let’s hope for God’s sake there is nothing hidden behind those thoughts and prayers. The country could not take another hit.

We need solutions Mr. Premier. Don’t let praying and fasting be your crutch for lack of action and your being ineffective as a leader.

You are giving me the feeling that that is all you have left and nothing else to offer. Please, get up off your knees, get a good plate of food, and get to work. We got problems in this country that need your attention.

  12. @Oh Boy says:

    Your post is very interesting.

There is no problem in a leader encouraging a nation to seek God’s face. What is wrong is when the same leader perpetuates hypocrisy and evil and does not repent from their wicked ways. I do agree that religion and politics should never mix.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33).
