I will fix it! Premier unhappy about EE/LL road woes

File photo

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has expressed his displeasure at the state of road works in the East End/Long Look community and has insisted that he will ensure the issues raised by residents will be fixed under his watch.

The area, which encompasses his constituency, has for years been the subject of endless complaints by residents for its neglected and poorly maintained road networks.

At a recent press conference, Premier Wheatley, who is also the Seventh District Representative and has oversight of the Long Look community, explained to reporters that a broken pipe damaged the roadway in that area.

“Apparently, there’s a broken pipe under the road that’s basically destroying the road, and so I expect for that to be rectified once they get that pipe fixed and they’ll resurface the road,” the Premier said.

The Premier further explained that more general works are being done in the Fat Hogs Bay area, where he noted there are some sewerage works being undertaken.

“They were doing some work with the manholes, etcetera. They’ll be having lots of other work being done to hook up homes to the gravity lines that will take you down to the pumping station that will then take the sewerage onto Paraquita Bay,” Dr Wheatley said.

Hold me to fixing it

In the meantime, with persistent and increasing complaints being made by residents of the territory about the state of the roadways — both on social media and traditional media platforms — the Premier said he too wanted to see some improvement in the state of affairs.

“I haven’t been completely pleased with how the work has been done there and in terms of the state of the road and how they’re conducting the work,” the Premier said.

He continued: “I would like to see some improvement there. I’m going to communicate that to the team who’s been doing the work there. And in the eastern end [of Tortola] just to say, I too am very displeased with the state of the roads there.”

Dr Wheatley then vowed that he will resolve the issue. “It’s completely unacceptable in my view and I plan to solve it. I plan to get it fixed. That’s something you can hold me to,” the Premier said.

  9. Serious says:

Question is will you fix it right, rather than as an election gimmick? Every time it rains the same holes come back bigger and better because you all too damn disgusting to do it right the first time, or the last time!

Or, some idiot comes digs up what has just been repaired and never fix it.

    No accountability in this country.

Potholes everywhere, drainage bad, concrete trucks dump their $hit on the road at every steep incline, gravel trucks dropping everything, excavators driving down roads, communication companies destroy mountain roads, the problems go on and on while no one says nothing, does nothing, or gives a $hit! Situation normal!

  10. Water and sewage says:

There are two in Pockwood Pond that water and sewage dug up an left them for months now causing multiple accidents and near misses. I wonder who manages that department.

  11. Reality Check says:

There is no management at Public Works. There is a politician who has wasted three years of our lives and left the country in worse shape than when he started. While we had hope given DMV was running well, it now appears he just had good people and he left them alone. Faced with actually having to manage his lack of management skills is apparent, as is the deterioration of our quality-of-life in the Territory!

  12. Resident says:

I have posted comment upon comment about the state of the roads. Here writing another one. Why in God’s Holy Name can’t the roads be fixed properly? You go to any country anywhere in the world their main roads are decent. Why? Why? Why? Is the BVI roads in this deplorable state for so long? Who are the engineers responsible for this? It us high time the govt get its act together in this regard. The time for talk is passed. We want to see action.

  18. Really says:

I see people on social media thanking the Premier for fixing things. What is wrong with all you? We have 450 Million budget a year and we look like the poorest Third World Country. The First District is crying for representation. Don’t all you realize none of us has any representation only the Politician and their cronies do. The first had AF and was forced to breath in poisoned air for all these years.
