I’m ready to make Road Town a modern city — Vanterpool

Mark Vanterpool

People’s Leadership Movement (PLM) leader Mark Vanterpool has pledged to transform Road Town into a modern city if voters return him as Fourth District (D4) Representative at the next general election.

Vanterpool, who previously represented the district for several terms, confirmed in a recent ZBVI interview that he intends to contest the D4 seat, saying residents have been urging him to return.

“I’ve had overwhelming requests by the people of the Fourth District to come back and represent them and try to rebuild the city,” Vanterpool said.

He added that his plans would extend beyond the capital to communities including Long Bush, Lower Estate, Joe’s Hill and MacNamara.

According to Vanterpool, one of his major goals would be ensuring that the territory’s capital finally looks and functions like a modern city.

“The City of Road Town needs to really become a city now, and I want to leave my legacy that I’ve done my best to make it what it should look like in this modern day,” he said.

However, Vanterpool stressed that his campaign would not be centred solely on beautification and infrastructure. He said residents are also struggling with housing, education and the cost of living, which he argued should be priorities for any district representative.

“My people in the Fourth District [are] crying out for it, and I will be trying my best to answer their call,” he stated.

Vanterpool was also asked directly about the performance of current Fourth District Representative Luce Hodge-Smith and whether he was dissatisfied with how the constituency has been represented. He responded that the shortcomings were “obvious”, while acknowledging that Hodge-Smith may have been making an effort.

“I think the representative may have tried her best, but I don’t think it has happened,” Vanterpool said.

He pledged to “improve the district” and raise the standard of living for residents if elected. Vanterpool, who became widely known during his previous years in elected office as the “Action Man”, said he hopes voters will give him another opportunity to live up to that moniker.

Like it or not the thing that Vanterpool has is his vision and His ability to execute. And the second part is the part where most fail. There is a reason h got the name “action man” I do believe that there would be a transformation and efficiency the likes of which we have never seen.

Vanterpool, I do not usually place comments here, but I could not help stopping and ask how many years have you served in HOA? How many as the rep for the city? Base on the number of years that I know, it appears that it takes quite a while for you to develop ideas for the city and taking another chance with you will cause the city to S(T)ink before it improves.

You’ve said it many times, but it is my turn to tell you, “Go Sit Dong.”

Please dont. Your vision of modern is not what we need, however if you start by keeping it clean that would be great. Nobody is coming here for a city. We need a decent town, everyone tries to escape cities.
