Improved transportation service around Anegada promised for next year’s Lobster Fest

Representative of the Ninth District where Anegada is located, Vincent Wheatley, has promised a few improvements in taxi operations for next year’s staging of the Anegada Lobster Festival.

Wheatley made the promise following concerns raised by some visitors who said travelling to the participating restaurants, that scattered across the sister island, incurred a great expense.

“I’ve heard that also and we are working on that,” Wheatley told BVI News. “We are working on a solution for next year. You are going to see a big difference next year in terms of getting around the island to all the restaurants. I guarantee you that by next year you will see a big difference.”

He also addressed another concern raised by some first-time visitors, who felt taxi operators could have informed them on other significant areas of interest to visit while on Anegada.

“Anegada has a lot more to offer than just restaurants. We’re going to have more pointed towards next year in terms of stops in between. So, it’s not just simply from the dock to the beach to the restaurant. We’re going to do the inland stuff next year. I’ve heard the concerns. We are going to put it in action. That I promise you,” Wheatley said.

Current Improvements well received

Meanwhile, the Ninth District Representative said that they were many good reviews from visitors and vendors regarding some of the improvements made from previous years.

“I’ve spoken to quite a few of the vendors here and they are very pleased — even those persons who are here for the first time. They like that the event is controlled and organised. Persons who have returned for like the second or third time; they’re telling me they’ve seen great improvements in a way the event is organised.”

“The long lines aren’t there anymore and the waiting periods aren’t there anymore. There is more space at the dock and so forth, so I’m really happy with the response I’m getting so far from the persons who are here at the event,” Wheatley added.

The 2019 Lobster Festival ran from Saturday, November 30 to December 01.

  3. First time visitor says:

A friend who attended last year while on vacation told me visit the event if In the BVI. I attend and I had a great time. It reminded me of going to Maine during lobster season. Only difference, the Caribbean is famous for lobster and Maine is famous for lobster rolls.

    It is so poorly run
    In three years
1 year they ran out of lobster, we starving
2 years now the barge was late and boats stuck on the reef

People so negative. How is a barge being stuck do poorly run? The organizers can’t control the amount of lobster in the sea. This great social event is what the attendee makes of it. Transportation improved a lot even though it was obvious that more people were there. Good job keep doing what you are doing!

  5. Well says:

Boat stuck on sand bank and people had to wait forever to get back to Tola. Would have helped if Allie moved he two piece of S$%T off the dock and make room for other businesses !!
