An inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut has reportedly attacked a prison officer who was deployed to the BVI from the UK.
It is said the prison officer sustained a number of injuries, including lacerations to the face.
He also received a broken tooth from the attack, BVI News understands.
Usually-credible sources said the attack happened sometime last week after a cancelled recreation period at the penitentiary.
While circumstances of the incident are still unclear, it is said that on the day of the reported incident, the inmate in question was seen wandering in an unspecified wing of the prison.
It is further said when the now-injured prison officer accosted him, the inmate lashed out.
He reportedly delivered several punches to the prison officer’s face.
Efforts to contact Prison Superintendent David Foot for comment have been unsuccessful.
But, BVI News understands that the matter has been reported to police.
It is not clear whether the inmate in question has been charged in connection with the alleged incident.
