Inmate who escaped during hurricane recaptured after 4 years

Jose Amestica

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed that they’ve now recaptured Jose Almestica who has been on the run since September 2017 when he escaped Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

In a press release statement, the police said: “The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force yesterday arrested and charged Jose Almestica, 33, for escaping lawful custody. Jose Almestica escaped from Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsam Ghut in 2017 during the passage of Hurricane Irma. He was arrested in 2016 for illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and illegal entry. He was on remand for these offences prior to his escape.”

“Investigations are ongoing, therefore no further information can be released at this time,” the RVIPF added.

The confirmation of Almestica’s arrest comes after reports emerged that the police conducted a raid on a local apartment occupied by a man who was wanted by the RVIPF for years.

With Almestica now in police custody, he is expected to serve time for the crime for which he was convicted. He’ll also be made to answer to any additional charges the police decides to bring against him.

There was an active warrant out for the arrest of Almestica at all ports of entry as he was convicted in October of this year for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

So, after the fact, his mugshot is published.
Jokers. The job must have been completed.
We weren’t supposed to recognize him, while he was hiding in plain sight.
Won’t be surprised if he got fisher/ farmers stimulus.
That list we never saw as promised by the Premier.
    Premier possibly
included him in the thousands to whom he bestowed status as a guarantee for vote..Heh,no published names with listings of those either.

The man escaped? Or the prison officer in charge set everybody free? I don’t know why the Governor who in charge of prison didn’t have this investigated as part of the COI? And if he was set free by the person in charge I would sue the Government claiming a valid release so that they couldn’t lock me up again.

      • @George IT says:

Briefly, one day 4 years ago????? Forgotten by next morning.. In the real concerned democratic non governmental criminal coparticipant/conspirator corners of the world,WANTED are always wanted ,hunted and so reminders are frequent and consistent, their photos are in places to be visible until found..these one or two in the itty bitt VI are no faced and mingling and mixing, resuming their gun/ drug activities,as dangerous to us as could be, renting apartments, driving, getting hired and their WANTED photos filed away in the non viewing zone. The one or two we have in the VI,should be etched in the memory of us…” Eh,way I see da face..”
        Make sense George!!

    • Lol says:

Lol V*** posted the wrong photo at first then corrected it..so I get why you said that.

  7. Question says:

Why aren’t more arrests being made? I doubt he was sleeping for four years in a tepee tent. Why aren’t those that were harboring him aren’t arrested and charged. I also don’t believe he was living off fish from the sea for four years either. Why isn’t anyone connected with providing him a job arrested either? This is just a failed attempt to make it seem like y’all doing your jobs. Follow this and every other case through. This selective arrests needs to STOP! Arrest and charge EVERYONE INVOLVED!
