Premier Andrew Fahie is encouraging global soccer organisation, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), to invest more in the British Virgin Islands.

The Premier made the call during the historic visit of FIFA President Giovanni Infantino last weekend.

His statement was also made against the backdrop that the territory is investor-friendly.

“Today is a good day for the Virgin Islands when the President of FIFA can take time out of his busy schedule to visit us. I am humbled, and there is nothing I can repay him with other than the currency of gratitude,” Premier Fahie said.

“We look for great things in this area and beyond and we encourage FIFA to find where ever else they want to invest in the Virgin Islands because we are creating an investment-friendly environment. So, please FIFA, anywhere else we can sit and discuss I have already invited him to do so to make sure that more investments can be done,” he added.

The Premier also encouraged FIFA to become a partner with the government.

He stated: “For every $100,000 we put in, he (the FIFA President) can put in a million. We can go far.”

In the meantime, Infantino said he was delighted to visit the territory.

“I am a happy man today when I come here to this beautiful place,” he said.

The FIFA boss also said it was a “great feeling” to stand on the field of the Greenland-based multipurpose sports facility that is being constructed in Greenland, East End.

The project is a partnership between the Football Association under the umbrella of FIFA and the government.

“BVI is investor friendly”? He said that with a straight face? There are few countries in the world which are quite as hostile to foreign investment as BVI is.
