Irregular House of Assembly sittings frustrate Mather

Territorial At-Large Representative Stacy Buddha” Mather has joined residents who are frustrated by the irregular sittings of the House of Assembly — something which has become a feature of the Dr Natalio Wheatley administration.

During a press conference hosted by members of the Opposition on October 25, Mather said since he has taken office, he’s asked his colleagues why the House of Assembly doesn’t have a regular meeting schedule as it used to in the past.

“If you look at the House of Assembly, you’ll understand that we meet when the executive decides that we meet, which is at the whim of the Premier,” Mather highlighted.

“I’ll draw the public’s attention to the next sitting, which is on October 31st. Each member of the House has received an invitation to a reception that starts at 5:30. Does that reception take precedence over the sitting of the House, the business of the House, the questions that need to be asked? Why schedule a reception or event on that day? How does that make sense? We’re going to close the shop early and go lyme? That’s not what leaders do,” Mather stated.

Residents and members of the media have been commenting on the matter as the trend did not happen as frequently under the Fahie-administration and those before it.

Some have blamed the issue on frequent international trips members of the government take to represent the territory at various events. Others have suggested that the government engage the members of the Opposition or other civil servants to attend some of these events on behalf of the BVI.

The criticisms have been shared with Premier Wheatley and members of the government, who say they have to attend some international events to promote the BVI’s interest.

They have also assured the public that funds taken from the territory’s treasury aren’t being wasted while they’re away on official duty.

However, there is no way to verify how well elected representatives spend public funds in the BVI as such information is never made public.

This VIP Government has this territory and People for a Joke. When last has the Territory been in such dis-array? People are not only complaining about personal suffering But about the overall condition of the Territory and yet the Premier thinks everything is Hunker Dory!!! Delusional I say. In the middle of an important sitting here comes a Cocktail party? Let’s get Dem Jokers drunk and we good to go. It is clear to see which side of the Aisles the D…Ka.ds sit. The Deputy campaigned on Change and yet SHE is the one responsible for all the Hell people are living in today. That is pure Deception!!! This Government is fragmented because she is a Government unto her own self. What meaningful thing has She and the VIP Government done so far to improve the living conditions of the people of this Territory? Why was she single handedly been allowed to shove the Trade Commission under the Rug all in the name of NO Money, No Staff? and the Premier couldn’t say a word in the Peoples’ defense? because she is calling the Shots. The Consumer Protection Act whereby people would be able to get a relief from the high prices from Businesses fall under the Trade Commission. So go figure, That explain why she did what she did. This Deputy is Not for the livelihood of the people. She is in it for herself and her family. She is and was a deceiver in the Minds and Hearts of many. Notice when it comes to answering any question pertaining to other areas of Government she refuses to answer? A Government All by herself!!! Look at the progress in All our Caribbean Neighbours, Where are WE? In Trench Town. This Group of Politricians CANNOT take this Territory forward. Who have Eyes to see, let them see. If something doesn’t happen and happen fast, WE ARE DOOMED…..If the Opposition afraid to March, SANE people of the BVI, It Is Time To March!!!!

  4. Agree says:

At large elected Mather is correct. No schedule so nothing is done.

HOA should operate similar to the High Court system which is a 5 day work week from 9-5pm on a schedule submitted 1-2 weeks in advance. No need for the annual summer break in August and September because the HOA members are just politicians not judges.

  10. cost me even more says:

Sowande ain’t running for anything but the next plane. Lorna running it. Remember her price to cross the floor was to be deputy Premier? So it suit her to run things without too much meetings and questions. The Premier ain’t here for meetings anyway.

  11. @Yawn says:

Many sitting on the ruling government side never managed a thing in their lives and those who managed anything were weak.

  12. Voter says:

    VIP are neglecting their
duties. A blind man can see and a deaf man can hear what is going on. Why are they afraid to have regular HOA meetings? Seems that way. Yea, tis time for all concerned voters to March up to the HOA building and stop talking man. Let Natatalio know what time it is. Nonsense got to stop.

  13. @Hon Mather is right says:

This brand of the VIP has people for a joke. This brand is a photo copy that this territory needs to replace. Right now Hon. Karl seems to be the only honest one. Lorna is still independent/NDP regardless of what them say.
