It’s dangerous! Bikers warned about ignoring road closure signs

As government currently undergoes four major road rehabilitation projects, it appears as if some members of the motoring public are not adhering to road closures to facilitate these works.

One of the main perpetrators is reportedly motor scooter riders.

Highlighting the dangers of ignoring road closures, Transportation & Works Minister Kye Rymer made a “special appeal” to these bikers.

“To the scooter and motorbike riders — the roads are closed for the safety of the community and you must obey all signs and instructions of the traffic wardens. By disobeying them, you are putting yourself and others at serious risk of injury and, God forbid, anything worse,” Rymer said.

For partially open roads, the minister urged motorists to traverse them cautiously and follow the directions of designated traffic wardens.

The four major road works underway are on the Ridge Road from Hope Hill to Little Dix Road, Fort Hill above Bob’s Gas Station, Great Mountain Road, and Ballast Bay.

“Works in all areas essentially require the erection of retaining walls where the road has been undermined and erecting safety barriers where needed,” the minister stated.

More works will be conducted on other roads across the territory this year.
