Jamaican granted bail after allegedly wounding man with knife, claims self-defence

A Jamaica national was granted $40,000 signed bail in the Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly inflicted serious wounds on another man in Road Town.

Charged with wounding is 24-year-old Prince Akeem Bambury.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo on Wednesday.

Allegations

The court heard that on November 30, the accused man was near a food van when the complainant bumped into him.

There was an exchange of words, and a tussle ensued between the duo, the court heard.

They eventually ended the altercation and the accused headed to the Ghetto/Crabbe Lott area of Road Town.

It is alleged that sometime later, the two men met in the vicinity of the Sunday Morning Well, when the accused, who was allegedly armed with a knife, attacked the complainant.

It is further alleged that the complainant tried to defend himself against the alleged knife attack but sustained several cuts about his body in the process.

The complainant attempted to flee when he stumbled and fell to the ground. The accused man allegedly inflicted a final cut to his person before walking away.

The complainant was later taken to the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital for medical attention.

Wounds

The court heard further that the complainant sustained large cuts to the left side of his back, arm, shoulder, and abdomen.

He also received a laceration to his right wrist and had to undergo immediate surgery to prevent him from losing the said hand.

During the police investigation, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was extracted from the area of the incident, and the accused was arrested on suspicion of the offence.

During the arrest, a knife was found on the accused, the court heard.

An audio-video interview was conducted with the Jamaican. He denied the allegations.

However, it is reported that he later told investigators that he wanted to tell the truth about what happened, and a subsequent interview was conducted.

I was defending myself

The court heard that the accused man admitted to inflicting wounds on the complainant but did so in self-defence.

He reportedly said that when the complainant bumped into him near the food van, the complainant was under the influence of alcohol and during the argument, the complainant punched him.

He reportedly claimed that when they met for the second time that night, he thought the complainant was about to attack him; hence, he pulled out his weapon and used it.

Bail

Bail was then granted to the accused man.

He was ordered to surrender all his travel documents, have no contact with the complainant or any other witnesses, and report to the Road Town Police Station every Monday and Friday between 6 am to 6 pm.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to February 6.

Attorney Reynela Rawlins represents the accused.

That these Jamaicans take their violence everywhere they go. America is deporting them left and right, England is deporting them left and right. No Country want them on their soil.TORTOLA had it’s problems yes but as soon as they start comming to TORTOLA,things started getting bad. The women come here to hoodwinked the men for money, house and to cause confusion between the men and their wifes. Someone I know from Sea Cows Bay pick up a big black ugly gorilla looking one and put her in his house that he build. When that man drop dead, she is the one responsible. You live in Sea Cows Bay, you know who I am talking about. They live up the hill. She look like King Kong relative. Big,ugly and BLACK.

Black is beautiful. A gorillas are beautiful. God don’t like ugly. Men be aware that if a Jamaican woman approach you first she already investigated what you have and will take it over your dead body. I heard one tried to slow poison a man but he got a stroke and recovered well. So he should now expect a bigger dose is waiting for him. Please make a will if you dont want your property ending up with your wife.

Some are heaters while some are good people some of these so wicked that they fight against their own BVI Landa. but my belief it no matter where you come from as longas you break the law you must pay the price if you cannot behave yourself go back where you come from if he’s a BVI Landa then stay in jail That’s my point
