Jaspert to deliver last Throne Speech on Thursday

Governor Augustus Jaspert

Governor Augustus Jaspert is set to deliver his final Speech from the Throne tomorrow, November 5, at the First Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly.

The Throne Speech is read annually at the opening of a new legislative session. It sets forth the government’s priorities with respect to its legislative agenda, for which the cooperation of the legislature is sought.

The speech is prepared within the Premier’s Office in consultation with various government ministries. It is then deliberated and approved by the elected government of the Virgin Islands before it is delivered by the Governor.

Governor Jaspert was appointed as BVI Governor in 2017.

In September of this year he announced that his tenure will expire at the end of 2020, making way for a new Governor — John Rankin who is currently serving as Governor of Bermuda.

The Sitting will begin at 10 am and will be held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.

It will be broadcast live on House of Assembly’s YouTube page, the House of Assembly’s Facebook page, ZBVI 780 radio, CBN Radio 90.9 FM, CBN-Television (online) and FLOW TV 101.

Even trying to help myself sell8ng little juice and bread which I thankful for. Yea is a worldwide hit on everybody but my people for a special evil dread. The laugh is youall think it’s only the expats who stifling. Look closer. A s0eech with empty promises and more of the same.

What a crass headline! The Governor should be referred to by more than his surname; especially when this Governor in particular has worked so hard for the Territory since he got here. I for one, remember who held things together after Irma, and the Governor was one of what was a small number of public servants. He has also been diligent and effective during Covid giving us an alternative to friends’ barges, and it seems to me, donations of highly relevant medical equipment and medicines from the UK. If, despite having generated billions of government revenue since about 1990, you have no resources and woeful infrastructure such donations come in very handy during a pandemic. Thank you Governor!

Wow the locals write the speech and the Governor reads it? Who writes what the Foy says? A second grader? I can’t imagine whom within the government has the ability to write a speech that the Honorable Governor delivers. I hope he has the ability to put it into English beforehand.

I hope he speak honestly about how he feel about the BVI, the BVI people and the BVI government, the direction we going in and the suggestions he has to give….
