Kadeem Maynard’s sentencing moved to later date

Kadeem Maynard

A sentencing hearing initially scheduled for August 21 for Kadeem Stephan Maynard, who pleaded guilty to being involved in a cocaine conspiracy, has been cancelled.

Maynard pleaded guilty, along with his mother, the former Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), Oleanvine Pickering Maynard, to a single count of conspiracy to import cocaine and offered full cooperation to prosecutors in exchange for lenience from the court at sentencing.

However, a paperless order filed by the court and signed by Judge Kathleen Williams said the cancellation was due to a court calendar conflict and said Kadeem’s sentencing hearing will now be rescheduled for a later date and time.

The news comes on the heels of an earlier notice of a postponement of Mrs Maynard’s sentencing to January 18, 2024 after it was also set for August 21.

Back in June, prosecutors removed charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and attempted money laundering from the indictment the Maynards faced, and agreed to recommend leniency at sentencing.

It is not immediately clear whether Kadeem’s sentencing will also be moved to next January along with his mother.

In the meantime, former Premier Andrew Fahie, who was initially charged along with the Maynards with conspiracy to commit money laundering, attempted money laundering, conspiracy to import cocaine and racketeering, continues to await trial after being placed on a $1 million bond.

Fahie’s trial is set to begin on January 8, 2024. This latest trial date follows a series of delays largely stemming from the massive trove of evidence prosecutors have had challenges disclosing to Fahie’s defence team.

This whole case is built around bringing down one man and that is A Fahie. All this delay tactics shows that they only want him.

Building a case of of hear say from this man and his mother with no concrete evidence will tumble this case out the gate.
