Kedrick Malone appointed as Premier’s Chief Advisor

Kedrick Malone.

Former Permanent Secretary Kendrick Malone is now the Chief Adviser in the Premier’s Office.

Yesterday, a post-meeting statement from Cabinet revealed that Malone was appointed as Governance Reform Delivery Manager/Chief Adviser to the Premier and Director of Strategy and Effectiveness.

Malone’s appointment was effective from March 15 and extends until March 14 2027, and will be at a rate of $120,000 per year. Last month, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley informed reporters that the Cabinet had approved Malone to oversee the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommendations.

He disclosed at the time that Cabinet had approved the appointment of a Governance Reform Delivery Manager. Malone’s appointment comes on the heels of a recommendation from UK Overseas Territories Minister David Rutley, who advised Dr Wheatley to appoint a dedicated individual to oversee the final phase of the COI implementation process.

Premier Wheatley explained that Rutley’s counsel emphasised the importance of selecting a person who could be solely responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfilment of the COI’s recommendations.

“What he communicated to me, his advice to me was, ‘Get an individual who you can hold accountable and this is the only thing they’re responsible for. It’s just ensuring that everyone does what they’re supposed to do — one individual and that’s their only responsibility.’ And we’re taking his advice on that,” the Premier said at the time.

According to Dr Wheatley, work on 50 of the 50 framework recommendations has begun and 29 of the COI recommendations have been completed. He also noted that 21 recommendations are in progress. Malone has a rich background in various governmental roles, including an earlier stint as a Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, bringing a wealth of experience to the crucial role.

Some of his recent work with the government includes the review of residency and Belonger status-granting processes, as advised by the COI, alongside his contribution to the new immigration policy.

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT MR. MALONE. HE IS VERY MUCH QUALIFIED AND FAIR-MINDED. I WOULD BET MY LAST PENNY THAT HE WAS RECCOMMENDED TO THE PREMIER. NOW WHETHER THE PREMIER WOULD LISTEN TO HIM IS LEFT TO BE SEEN BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE HE OPERATES ON CORNFLAKES AND MILK. TIME WILL TELL.CONGRATULATION TO YOU MR. MALONE!! I KNOW YOU CAN PRODUCE.. THERE IS A TOURISM REPORT CATCHING DUST ON SOMEONE’S SHELF WHICH WAS DONE BY MR. MALONE WHEN HE WAS AT THE TOURIST BOARD. “T.I.S.S” IS THE NAME OF THE REPORT. TOURISM INDUSTRY SERVICE STANDARDS. PAID FOR IT AND STILL SITTING ON A SHELF AND WE TALK ABOUT IMPROVING OUR TOURISM PRODUCT.
