Local boat captain nabbed in $3M Florida drug bust

A local boat captain has been arrested in a multi-million dollar drug bust in the United States.

Police said the accused drug smuggler, Wayne Stout Jr, was also a target in an ongoing money-laundering investigation.

According to court filings seen by BVI News, Stout was arrested following a surveillance operation executed by the Department of Homeland Security, which involved another man — Avery Lans.

Reports show that Lans previously served 25 years of a 40-year sentence for second-degree murder in the neighbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI) before receiving a pardon from former USVI Governor John de Jongh after his release.

Investigators said they trailed Stout as he rented a car and took officers to a storage unit in Orlando, Florida before handing over a duffel bag to Lans in the parking lot of a restaurant.

When they followed Lans, he reportedly began driving erratically, which investigators believe was a tactic used to evade pursuit. During this pursuit, Lans reportedly tossed the bag he was given by Stout and it was later discovered to have nearly 12 pounds of cocaine inside.

Officers then obtained a search warrant for the storage facility that was earlier accessed by Stout. There, agents discovered three large coolers containing 109 bricks of suspected cocaine.

Officers said each brick was estimated to weigh at least 1 kilogram and explained that a kilogram of cocaine is worth approximately $30,000.

Both men were later arrested and brought before the court on charges of conspiracy to possess 5 kilos or more of cocaine.

Stout was set to appear before Judge Melissa Damian on June 8 where prosecutors requested that bail be denied.

US not only looking for the drug dealers. US looking for Belongers that are US citizens that have failed to file US IRS tax returns or have lied on their filings. Just remember Belongers, when your mama dropped you in PR, St Thomas or Florida so that when you grow you get free s**t from the US, it’s now time you pay the tax man. Many goin to travel to US one way. More Belongers in US jails soon then in the BVI. The tide has turned in the racist Belonger.

The DEA has the BVI drug smugglers on their radar now. There will be a lot less boys with big gold chains riding their scooters around now. Too bad they can’t take out the dirty politicians as well. UK needs to do their part.

When will these guys learn that there is no upside to drug dealing. Whatever gains made may be all but temporary.

These guys in their unsophisticated dealings are low hanging fruits for the DEA. They chew them out for breakfast. They are out there doing illegal stuff and yapping to people they do not know not even realizing they are yapping to the DEA.

As for Lans, he deserve to have the book thrown @ him. He was convicted of second degree murder, sentenced to 40, and served 25 after the governors pardon, and has waisted his second chance. He has shown he has no intention to live a law abiding life.

With the amount of cocaine that was found to be associated with them, they can count on 20 plus years in the slammer upon conviction. Waste of their lives. They will be someone’s prison wife soon.

Anyone thinking of getting into the trade should think twice before they do. Look at what is going on around you. If you are in the trade, try to get out. Its either that or death or a prison cell.

Get an education guys. Stay in school, and find you a job. You don’t have to be a doctor or lawyer. You can hold a blue collar job, earn a good living to take care of yourself and family.

Stay away from the ultimate killer of hopes, dreams, and lives: DRUGS. Be it using or selling. Stay away or be prepared to pay the price.

We hear of so many of these cases. Makes me wonder why are so many young men in particular getting involved in the drug trade? What is the story behind their decision making?

There’s no “story”. It is laziness and greed, plain and simple. There are always jobs out there if they WANT to work.

But to hold down a normal “job”, they’d actually have to get up in the morning at a decent hour, and give up wearing their pants half way down their posteriors … and well, that’s just too much to ask. So drugs it is!

      • And the beat goes on. says:

Well..you are probably correct in your assumption. I do think that quite often there is often something going on in someone’s life that leads them on this part.

Was it some sort or financial hardship, loss of job, lack of family support, or as you stated laziness and greed?

Not justifying their actions, but trying to understand it. There is always something in their path that leads them down this road.

Whatever it is, I cannot say enough that its a very very bad choice to get into the drug trade.

I trust no family member of mines get involved. If they do, they must understand that as far as I am concern, they will be answering to the judge without my presence, and don’t expect me to visit you in lock up. I simply don’t do jail.

Family members best start talking or keep talking to these young men out here getting themselves caught up in drug dealings. They may not listen, but at least when they get in trouble you can say you tried to talk some sense into them.
