Local nurse, Delrice Mactavious has been announced as the grand prize winner of the BVI Red Cross Car Raffle on Valentine’s Day and will be driving away in a brand new 2020 Nissan Kick from Burkes Garage.
In addition to winning the vehicle, Mactavious will also be receiving free comprehensive vehicle insurance coverage for one year, a full tank of gas, new carpets, free vehicle licensing, and six months supply of free gas with a maximum of two tank fulls per month.
Mactavious said she was in disbelief when she received the call that she had won from BVI Red Cross Director, Stacy Lloyd.
Goal Achieved by BVI Red Cross
Speaking to BVI News following the fundraising initiative, Director Lloyd described the raffle as an overall success.
“Our goal of course is always to surpass the amount of money that we used to purchase the car, so we always want to double, triple, quadruple whatever we can get,” Lloyd said.
“We wanted to make sure that we raised enough funds to support our different programmes and our strategy for 2020, and based on the tickets that we left and that were sold, I think we actually reached our goal,” she added.
Programmes to benefit
Some of the BVI Red Cross programmes which will benefit from the raffle initiative include its Home Care Basics class — which teaches persons how to care for the elderly — and First Aid courses, consisting of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and automated external defibrillator training.
In addition, the Darkness to Light programme — which addresses sexual abuse of children — and the Restoring Family Links programme that deals with families who are displaced during disasters will also benefit.
In the meantime, other winners of the raffle include Greg Grant, who won a $100 shopping voucher from One Mart Supermarket; Shamir Ballenthyne, a Deluxe Spa treatment from Solitude Day Spa; Carl Todman, who won three month supply of free gas from The Boys Gas Station; and Robby Delice won a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure from 360 Hair Salon.
