Locals invited to apply for Chevening Scholarship to pursue UK Master’s degree

Locals interested in pursuing post-graduate studies in the United Kingdom for the 2021/2022 academic year are being encouraged to apply for the Chevening Scholarship Award.

A recent media release from the Office of the Governor said persons interested in contesting for the UK scholarship will have up until November 3 to submit their online applications (www.chevening.org/apply).

Speaking on the scholarship opportunity, Governor Augustus Jaspert said the territory possesses a number of talented persons who can utilise this award to elevate themselves to the next level.

He said: “We all know that education unlocks doors and Chevening provides access to a world-class education at no cost, as well as entry into an influential and global alumni network. We have so much talent and ambition here in BVI and it would be fantastic to see our bright stars shine in the next Chevening cohort.”

Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley also spoke highly of the scholarship stating that it provides the perfect opportunity for locals.

“As a past scholar in the United Kingdom, I know that the education provided is top tier and I encourage all those who are eligible to apply. You lose nothing by improving your skill set especially with a fully-funded scholarship.”

Meanwhile, the BVI’s 2020/2021 Chevening scholar McKay Andrew departed the territory earlier this week to commence studies in the City University of London.

Andrew who has both an undergraduate and post-graduate qualification in Law will be pursuing a Master’s in Law.

More than 1,500 persons across the world will be awarded Chevening Scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year.

How fantastic. A great chance for someone to do more study. Be great if research was focused on the VI and what next for the economy, or what to do with Sargasso, minority community development.
