Lorna Smith shocked at the state of ESHS after Phillipe

Deputy Premier and Labour Minister Lorna Smith

Deputy Premier Lorna Smith said she was shocked after witnessing the damage caused to the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) after the passage of Tropical Storm Phillipe this week.

Smith expressed gratitude to persons who came out to assist in clean-up efforts after the storm had passed, especially those who used their own heavy equipment to clean clogged roadways and ghuts.

But Smith said she made her way to the ESHS after visiting some areas around Tortola and did not seem prepared for the scene that confronted her.

“I came to the school… and I have to say I was shocked by what I saw, Smith said. “A new building – and the Minister of Education will talk more about that I’m sure – but I saw a new building; yes, the water had subsided, but there was a lot of mud and debris.”

Smith explained that a tree had fallen into a nearby ghut and this had caused a blockage. She said this allowed much of the flooding to break into the school’s compound.

“A large part of the first floor is under mud and debris and so on,” Smith said. “Our children have just come out to school and I’m hoping that we will be able to have them back to school.”

Meanwhile, Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer commended members of the public and private sector for coming out in their numbers to assist in the clean-up process.

Rymer said it felt good to see that people were not just seeking to get paid for cleaning up the area, but were hard at work for the sake of pride in their community.

“This was a lot of rain. It’s a lot of rain and, you know, we’ve seen the remnants of the water receding now but, you know, I think we have done fairly well in terms of how the territory looks now,” Rymer said.

And the Minister for the schools take up and gone Singapore the day after the terrible flooding of the same school with her best friend the chief education officer. Spending almost 50k between the two of them for this joy ride or girl …. Where are our priorities? They conspire to get rid of CG so they could spree together.

Wake up everybody we need each other. Even the dumb and the ignorant have their story. If we were to recognize that each person has been given a different spiritual gift and stop trying to measure and compare we would have a wider circle of unity and positive vibes. There are those of us that can see into the future but are doubted and ridiculed when we express our vision but this does not change reality. Our elected representatives need help on many different levels but unfortunately only jacket and tie and money are recognized. It was a hallelujah moment when I passed the Paraquita Bay area today and saw the dead trees hanging over the road had been taken down I had to stop and commend the workers lord knows that was a tragedy waiting to happen. Please can you complete the surfacing of Sophie Bay (Sleepy Hill) to avoid the current practice of two vehicles coming around the corner in the same lane. There is a need for someone to identify problems and situations around the islands and bring them to the attention of the various persons responsible. Governance could never be a one man job. The “Yes We’re Different” Tourist Board Motto
was perfect for our islands as a country consisting of more water than land area. Hope my honest insight will lead to some introspection and
meaningful action as we seek to build what cousin Kedrick refers to as this great little nation.

I am NOT sending my child back to that High School. School has not been open a Month and look at the problems. First the teachers went on a sit out three days after school started, second, the flood waters. The school is poorly constructed and Sub Par. The High School looks like a homeless shelter AKA Detention center where they hold illegals before deportation.

not sure if many will get or appreciate the sarcasm.lol

  13. @hmmmm says:

How racist. Geeze, you are truly sick, suffering from many diseases and. historical unrealities.

The truth is, UK should pay the country and people of the islands what they owe to them..

Last, where is there more corruption than in the UK?

Who was corrupt when the UK was kidnapping, trading, selling, marketing, raping, brutalizing and murdering millions of human beings for centuries, and reaping abundant wealth from the people that made it across the Atlantic ocean?

Who was corrupt when hundreds of millions were dumped into the vast oceans over decades?
Who was corrupt when natural human beings were down trodden, viewed and treated as less than pigs in a stinking sty pen?

And who was corrupt when the UK sailed around the world exterminating very race of people it came across, stole their lands and resources and shipped them back to UK to build the country and life style they the UK enjoys today?

Indeed, you need to stop your moral indignation. You do not have the moral authority to refer to any one as corrupt. You need to hush your mouth. We have done none of the horrible things you have done to lack and colored mankind.

Since when building a substandard building, according to you, is a corruptible offense?

Additionally, you need to pay up what you owe for all the building we have done for your country.

The hatred and vitriol for the Black man will never end for as long as your kind exist upon this earth.
