‘Maintain confidence gov’t can control economy’, residents told

Premier Andrew Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie is urging all Virgin Islanders to maintain confidence in the government, particularly the Ministry of Finance, that it will guide the BVI through what he described as a tumultuous economic time.

Fahie, who is also the Minister of Finance, said the territory has come a long way from where it started two years ago in terms of COVID-19 and how to manage it and adjust both living and working conditions.

He said this has allowed economic activities to resume substantially despite the continued effects on supply chains and the cost of goods and services worldwide and in the BVI.

“Your ministers, junior ministers and all our government members have also been working hard as a team in this effort, doing our respective parts, and working with the technical officers in the various ministries,” Fahie said.

“Working as a team means everyone makes their input on matters, and we discuss and find the best way forward for the country. And when a decision is made, we abide by the convention of collective responsibility,” the Premier added.

Fahie said he points these reasons out to let people know they have all right to have confidence in the stewardship of the government and in the technical officers in the ministries.

“Of course, while we continue to adjust to facilitate further ramping up of economic activity in the Virgin Islands, especially in our tourism industry and the related businesses, we are also dealing with the impacts of the conflict taking place in Ukraine since last February. These impacts are rippling through economies across the world. No economy is being spared. And we in the Virgin Islands are no exception,” the Premier said.

“Your government is fully in touch with what is happening and how this is affecting our people. We continue to monitor the situation abroad, and how this is affecting you. And your government remains resolved to do everything in our power to help to cushion the impacts that these international developments have on our people and on the local economy,” he continued.

The Finance Minister said the team at the Finance Ministry, and other ministries and departments have been working hard, continuously assessing the situation and advising on the adjustments that the government needs to make “to keep us sailing with the wind”.

“I wish to be emphatic that I have full confidence in the capabilities of our team. Their professional guidance is one of the main reasons why your government was able to prevent our economy from sustaining catastrophic damage during the earlier periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, and why our Virgin Islands economy has been, therefore, able to remain on a steady path to a resurgence in the midst of COVID-19,” Fahie said.

This is a buf**on who must go now. I am tired of the insanity this ID1*T preaches in the name of a god he clearly doesn’t follow.

  2. comical lack of self-awareness says:

What drives growth is sound policy, inspirational leaders and clever, innovative government. This lot simply do not have the intellectual grasp. As they survey the economic wreckage caused by their pride and indolence, with their attendant coterie of useless consultants, bewigged clowns, tame lawyers etc. they are asking us to drink this Kool-Aid narrative.

Every person in business knows these cl**ns are totally anti business, anti tourism , anti UK and concerned only with the continued success of the alleged Colombian Parcel Service.

Maintain confidence when you are all taking from the people, you must think we are stupid. May the COI come this week and stop the haemorrhage of Public Funds into Ministerial pockets.

Myron I see you are blogging a lot now these days.

What is not there for you in your eyes does not mean that the people are not seeing the hard work of their elected government. Though you have a right to your opinion, no need to make it comes across as if it is many because the poles will again speak for themselves.

  11. Absurd says:

How can there be confidence in the govt managing any sort of economy when it can’t manage its own projects on budget and on time, with every dollar spent accounted for and gone towards completing the project?

  12. Confident? says:

Working in charter yachting, I’m VERY confident that the Hon. Premier has dumped a very large portion of overseeing the ;economy off on HM Customs…
And I have every confidence in the world that the Hon. Premier is more worried about feeding the treasury than keeping the economy healthy.
Oh, wait… I’m pretty confident that when I head off to the polling station in my home district (District 1), my ballot will not include any votes for the current government, but my position is based entirely on the government’s lack of performance.

  13. YOUTH says:

The majority of us have confidence in the Premier & his government.
