Malone undecided on whether to contest next general election

Territorial At-Large Representative Carvin Malone said he has not made a definite decision on whether he will contest the next general election which is constitutionally due before May of next year.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday evening, Malone explained that his decision will ultimately depend on what the people want when he does his assessment.

“I have not concluded that at this time. It is based again on the people of the Virgin Islands. How I assess that they will do but I have not ruled it in, and I have not ruled it out,” Malone said.

He also explained that his indecision does not dependent on whether the former Premier of the territory, Andrew Fahie is acquitted of the drug trafficking and money laundering charges that he’s facing in the United States.

“It has absolutely nothing to do with that,” Malone said.

Meanwhile, Malone argued that the current government of national unity has largely ignored the cries from the people, and he believes Virgin Islanders’ call for a general election should not be ignored.

“If the people of the Virgin Islands decide we go as is, then the voice of the people needs to be heard. We need to find ways to finalise this so whatever the House of Assembly represents, it is reflective of the collective views of the people of the Virgin Islands, whether through special groups or special organisations or whatever mode of representation that would best see fit,” he said.

“One of the views that I have expressed recently is that the views of the public calling for consideration for a general election, must be seriously considered. It cannot be overlooked, and I think I hold fast to that, and it is one in which I will continue to hold fast,” Malone added.

The former Minister for Health & Social Development also noted he is yet to decide what party he will represent in Opposition. Malone noted that despite not resigning from the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), the party still encompasses one section of the current government.

“At the end of the day, I must see exactly what is required. I have not resigned from the VIP. I have crossed the floor, yes. If I must go in as a temporary independent member, I will,” he said.

“At the end of the day, the Virgin Islands Party has a strong foundation. The Virgin Islands Party is part of the government. It is funny enough I must call it this name, but I called it the ‘triparty opposition’ before and now we have a triparty government,” the longstanding VIP member stated.

No matter where he run, he not getting elected again. He abdicated his responsibility to VIP.

    • Ok says:

Well ,recently carvin has been sputing out how jis family and associates are from east and he said the smarties also. Comes from there so he would be much better off going back up there to run against the same man who demoted him. Both of them looking power.
Let carvin remember how he dissed frazer for andrew to become head of the vip.

  2. BVIGURL says:

It’s a shame that he was a part of a govt lead by the now accused drug trafficker and didn’t see the people weren’t being heard then. As soon as he lost his position as minister, he have a problem with the unity govt. these people just don’t understand their role as elected officials. But don’t worry about whether you should run or not….the people will not vote you back in.

    • @BVIGURL says:

      Your post is spot on!

He is nothing but a self-entitled political parasite. The vestiges of his relevance will disappear after the House is dissolved for the 2023 election (provided the UK doesn’t suspend the constitution before then)

  3. Virgin Islander says:

I cannot and do not understand the rationale of politicians in the BVI. When coach was around and corruption was skyrocketing Mr. Malone was like Hushpuppi…now that things are smoothing out he is switching sides and playing politics. Do not vote CARVIN MALONE in anymore elections in this country.

    • @Virgin Islander says:

You are soo right. When Andrew was taking millions out of our Social Security funds and making every decision unilateraly, we thought, and perpetuating all sorts of ugliness on this country, Hon. Malone and all the other members of the VIP sat and said and did nothing. But now, now, when they should tuck their tails and be ashamed of what they were deciding, we are now sure, as a group, including giving themselves contracts once they mention it in the House, that is, he is making big moves and moving to the Opposition? Complicit everyone of them! All the foolishness thank God will not continue. The head of the snake is gone, the body will only wiggle for a little while. So, Hon. Malone and others, wiggle away. God is in control.

  4. Licker and Sticker says:

The whole lot of them need to go. Slow Wande A-You-R-You and all of dem, even remnants of the NDP, all of them, tossed out like trash. They all contributed to where we are. New contestants should be given a chance.
