Man accused of beating former lover with bar stool

Mitchell Brewley

A Great Mountain man accused of beating his former girlfriend with a bar stool has been arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court.

Mitchell Brewley pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm before Magistrate Shawn Innocent on Thursday.

He was subsequently granted $10,000 bail. As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to not interfere with the alleged victim who is said to have been beaten at a Fat Hog’s Bay bar on February 17, last year.

The middle-aged man was also told to stay away from establishments that sell liquors.

Allegations

The court heard that police responded to a report in Fat Hogs Bay shortly after midnight on the day in question.

Upon arrival, the alleged victim claimed that she was beaten by her former lover with a bar stool.

Her legs were swollen and she had a black eye from the alleged attack, the court heard.

Sometime later, the accused was arrested and charged.

During a subsequent interview, Brewley reportedly told police that he only ‘pushed’ the woman. He denied using a stool to assault her.

His matter was adjourned to March 12.
