Man accused of discarding drugs during police chase

Finley

A man who allegedly discarded two bags containing a substance suspected to be cannabis while he was being pursued by police has been brought before the Magistrate’s Court.

Charged with possession of 37 grams of cannabis and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another is Dillion Finley.

He pleaded guilty to the simple possession charge but not guilty to the possession with intent to supply.

Allegations

The court heard that on September 22 last year, police were on mobile patrol in Baugher’s Bay when they allegedly spotted the accused acting suspiciously.

The court further heard that Finley started walking in the opposite direction when police officers exited the vehicle to approach him.

And upon noting that he was about to be approached by the police, the accused allegedly started running away and discarded a bag that is believed to have contained the drugs.

The court was told that he was accosted by the lawmen when he allegedly discarded a second bag roughly five feet away from the first one.

A total of $498 was also found on his person.

He was subsequently arrested and charged and brought to the Road Town Police Station where the drugs were weighed.

One bag contained 17 grams while the other included 20 bags of green vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis.

His matter was adjourned to May 2. He not represented.
