Man allegedly found with loaded gun granted $80K bail

The 34-year-old scooter rider allegedly found with an unlicensed, loaded gun during a police stop-and-search operation last Friday has been granted bail.

Akeem Robinson, who is charged with Carrying an Unlicensed Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, was offered $80,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin on Tuesday.

Some $70,000 of that bail amount is to be signed with sureties while the remaining $10,000 must be paid upfront as a cash component.

Other conditions of his bail include a requirement for Robinson — who was born in the neighbouring US Virgin Islands — to surrender all his travel documents. He is also required to report to the nearest police station on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 6 am and noon.

The court also mandated that Robinson show good behaviour including not associating with criminal elements.

Defence attorney E Leroy Jones represented the accused man.

Robinson, a resident of Johnson’s Ghut in Road Town, was allegedly found with a CZ P-10 Glock pistol loaded 12 rounds of ammunition on the day in question.

Following the reported incident, the head of the police’s Armed Response team, Acting Chief Inspector Dean Robin, said the successful find and subsequent arrest was a result of his team’s continued surveillance work targeting suspects and suspected areas. Within the operation’s team were recruits still in training who received the needed field exposure in preparation for upcoming graduation and integration into the Force.

    “The court also mandated that Robinson show good behaviour including not associating with criminal elements.”

    The entire court system is a joke and that’s why these fool feel like they can roam the territory with their guns.

    @Banana Republic

    I can tell you didn’t read because it very clearly says in the article that $70,000 of the bail is SIGNED bail while $10,000 is to be paid upfront.

    Reading is fundamental. Please read carefully before commenting nonsense. It clearly states 70k worth of the bail must be signed surety (likely a family member of the accused may put up their house or another asset of equivalent value). The 80k bail amount was not paid “comfortably” in upfront cash by the “scooter ryder”.

    Unreal. In leading anti gun societies there is no way someone found with an illegal loaded gun is given bail.

    We are committing mass suicide.
